Silly doubt!

Hi all,

I am going to try to configure Active/Active HA two UTMs.
I read the document to do so but i sudennly came to a question,
After configuring the first machine (master), do i have to setup the
IPs in the slave or just use the same IPs as the master?

    You do not have to configure anything on the slave(s). Just out them on factory reset an plug them together via eth3.

    Make sure the slave(s) have the same or a slightly lower firmware version as the master.

    r00tm4n, have you discussed this with your reseller?  There are licensing implications.  What UTMs do you have?

    If you haven't already purchased these two units, then I have a suggestion...

    It's more cost-effective and more-reliable to use Hot-Standby (Active/Passive) with two larger UTMs than clustering (Active/Active) with two smaller units.

    For example, two UTM 625s in Hot-Standby and a single, three-year Full-Guard subscription is about US$18,000 less than two clustered UTM 525s with two three-year subscriptions.  If one unit fails in the Hot-Standby 625s, you still have full capability.  If one unit fails in a 525-Cluster, you're reduced to half capacity.

    Like I said, better and cheaper. [;)]

    PS It wasn't always like this.  Just since Hot-Standby became a "free" part of the license.
    PPS That said, whether it's Hot-Standby or clustering, just apply the appropriate license to the existing Master, plug everything in like Scorpionking says, and you're done!

    Hi,

    Actually i have already purchased 2 sophos utm 425 and
    yes i have license issues for my region. So i will the do
    HA cluster for one year only.
    My priority is speed (load balancing) cause i have plenty
    of critical services running and need to increase response.
