Routing issue...

I am on my LAN.  When I ping the OUTSIDE interface of my ASG220, the pings are returned.

However, when I enter the outside server address (either the public IP address or the FQDN) into a web browser, it says "page not found".

Why can't I access that external interface?  Is this a basic characteristic of a default router configuration, and can I do anything about it?

We have some iPhone users who can get their mail when using the Mobile phone network, but not using the internal wi-fi network.  The boss is one of them, therefore it's important.

Is there some reason why connecting with the outside interface is somehow different?

    Hi, if the server is on the LAN and not a DMZ, then you'll need to setup split DNS, where your internal DNS servers resolve to the internal server IP.

    Do you mean you are inside your network, trying to reach a server inside your network via an IP on the External interface?  If so, then go to the Astaro KnowledgeBase and use the top article after searching on: server internal

    Barry's suggestion regarding the split DNS makes the most sense in this case.  This had already been set up for their web server:  I had only to create another A record.

    Works perfectly.

    A guy can learn a lot about such things on this site, with a bit of searching and more than enough knowledgeable folks willing to help.
