WOL through Astaro

Magic Packets aren't routed through the "internet".

I think you have found the solution, tonight I'll try. Until now I was never be able to find a software that could use a defined port and ip! All other softwares need only mac address! With a simple nat it should work

Uhm.. it's not possible to use Internal Broadcast as destination of DNAT [:(]

Bob, I think it's not possible with astaro, since it does not permit the NAT to a broadcast address. I think I'll have to build an application that will run on a always on pc. I have to decide if it will be a web application or just a windows service (in this case it will receive the magic packet from internet and it will re-send to broadcast). Tell me If you are interested, I'll give you (for free [;)] )

In any case, it will be a fun feature to implement directly in ASG

/usr/sbin/ether-wake -i INTERFACE MACADRESS
for example
/usr/sbin/ether-wake -i eth0 00:11:22:33:44:55

My eth0 wan NIC (UTM)
my eth1 lan NIC (UTM)
the device im trying to wake on lan (computer on my network)

Hi, you use the MAC of whatever you want to wake, and specify the NIC (e.g. eth0) that is on the same LAN.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I think it's still relevant.
  
 I found another thread (https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/54/t/40213) that a): contains a script and a way to use a DNAT with a dummy IP but it seems that will open the entire LAN subnet to incoming port x UDP traffic.


I found a pretty nice app for Android called JuiceSSH that will let you create snippets that can be added to connections. You could create a connection and add an 'ether-wake' snippet for each computer you wish to wake so you end up with what is basically a one-click solution for each computer.


What concerns me is allowing SSH access over the internet.


One caveat to using JuiceSSH is that you either have to b): set up Sophos to allow root access over the Internet or c): add the SU command and store the root password in the snippet. JuiceSSH does however have the option of password protecting everything (i.e.; connections, snippets, etc).


Which method do you guys think is safer; a, b or c?
