New NIC not picking up IP from DHCP

Hi!

I just plugged in another NIC on my ASG 7.502 and can't seem to get an IP address assigned to it.  It's connected to my modem and I'm seeing the following error in the system messages logs when I try to renew the address:

2009:12:30-19:20:44 Astaro dhcpcd[5696]: dhcpStart: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device 

I've tried rebooting the ASG and my modem, but no change.  

Going to try a different port on the modem (a known good port) and will report my findings once that is done.

The new NIC shows up as "Intel Corporation 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller" in the hardware section from the network interface management screen.  I guess I should check to see if it's supported too...

I only found one other reference to the above error but it was closely related to PPPoE and didn't make much sense to me in my situation, so here I am posting.  Help?

    Restoring the config won't restore the license.

    Luckily, I found my old license so that was easy.

    Unluckily...I had to rebuild and reconfigure it ALL from scratch...When I initially installed the additional NIC (of a different make/model than my existing NIC's) it added the hardware but just plain wouldn't work.  This is what eventually hurt me, because of a couple different factors...For your entertainment:

    I had stopped receiving notifications a while back and never got around to fixing it.  I fixed it the other day, turns out google didn't like the email address I was sending from (appeared as spam because it was the default address...doh!).  This also meant I was getting my auto-backup's emailed to me, they were just sitting on the firewall.

    The other factor that screwed me up was that I didn't backup the config prior to popping in that first new NIC and I thought I'd be fine by just grabbing a couple of the latest backups off the firewall.  oh boy was I wrong!  

    When I went to reinstall, I couldn't restore from the backup.  I felt like vomiting at this point...haha.  I recalled that I had to update the box first, so I initiated the process and the next day I restored the latest config, only to my horror to see that it restored the bad info. too because I had backed it up - duh!  Garbage in = garbage out eh?

    I took note of all my configurations manually and rebuilt from the ground up.  It took me about 3 hours of time between waiting for up2date to patch the box up to snuff, but it was worth the effort because I discovered some areas for improvement and learned a couple more things along the way.

    So, lesson learned!  Back it ALL up before ANY changes no matter what...I really have no excuse for not doing this - I am expected to do it at work, but it's home, so you know...I got lazy [:(]

    Oh well.  All is well now [:)]

    I LOVE how you can pop the USB memory stick in and boot up to restore to a config - nice touch!
