New NIC not picking up IP from DHCP

Hi!

I just plugged in another NIC on my ASG 7.502 and can't seem to get an IP address assigned to it.  It's connected to my modem and I'm seeing the following error in the system messages logs when I try to renew the address:

2009:12:30-19:20:44 Astaro dhcpcd[5696]: dhcpStart: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device 

I've tried rebooting the ASG and my modem, but no change.  

Going to try a different port on the modem (a known good port) and will report my findings once that is done.

The new NIC shows up as "Intel Corporation 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller" in the hardware section from the network interface management screen.  I guess I should check to see if it's supported too...

I only found one other reference to the above error but it was closely related to PPPoE and didn't make much sense to me in my situation, so here I am posting.  Help?

    I don't see it on the HCL, bummer.

    I'll try connecting the NIC to a known good uplink port.  Failing that, will try connecting another known good NIC to this uplink port.

    Will post results shortly!

    ahhh, after looking at the situation again, i see it has no link to begin with...

    When I try to connect a known good cable and uplink to the port, it still fails to provide a link status.  Time to try another PCI slot, and failing that a new NIC I suppose.  Bummer!

    Tried two more NIC's and both had the same symptoms.  Two different types too, but I just noticed now that the hardware listed didn't change.  Am I supposed to do something between swapping the NIC's to totally "uninstall" them or is that supposed to happen automagically...?  I was hoping it was automagical...Maybe not?  Maybe it's still holding on to my first failed NIC and has made me think it's been failing for each NIC but it's just not really updating all along...hhmmm...

    Astaro installs the drivers during installation, it does not support adding another NIC after the fact. The official way is to take a backup add the new NIC and reinstall and then load your backup. If you add the exact same type of NIC it can work without re-installing, but you will also need to edit the config files manually, there are probably some threads on this already.

    Ahhh, I see.  That explains why my other three NIC's were able to be installed after the fact.  Excellent information - thanks!  I'll do the whole backup and restore thing since I don't have any more of the same model of NICs from before.  Then again, maybe I'll dabble with messing with the configs first to see if I can get that working.

    I'll post the results and solutions where applicable - thanks again!

    I just went to download the ISO to burn to disk again from my account, but it says it's only a 30 day trial.  Can't I download a full version with a "home user" license like I did when I first got it a couple years back?  Or do I need to use my original installation disk (somewhere in my computer room....) and then go through updating it online to get it back up to snuff...?  Or will restoring my backup bring it all back up to date too (thought it was just the config. stuff).?

    Oh, so I download the latest version as a 30 day trial, and then when I restore my config, it will keep me going, or I can request a home license to carry on like I have been?  Phew, ok, I thought it was a clever way to get the "free" users to start paying or something LOL.  I'll starting downloading now!  Thanks, I'll post the results.
