im not running ASG. thats why i asked the question if accuracy has been fixed yet or not. this was the reason i stopped using ASG, it was totally inaccurate.

Are you in North America?  Fire your ISP just because they measure!  There's so much unused fiber in the ground that bandwidth usage should not be a problem.

the accounting of Astaro is very correct. We use the netfilter/iptables connection tracking to count every connection aka netflow accounting. so i am pretty sure the counted traffic is correct. 

One thing that could be problematic in your case is, that we do not attach the interfaces (in and out) to the reported data, but report basically on IPs and on throughput. If you only have two interfaces, this is not a problem. 

I notification on bandwidth usage quota is not available.

Is there any double counting between traffic type reports. How do you determine the actual traffic through the ASG because the summary at the top of each traffic type is the total of all IP addresses and cannot be divided by 2 to arrive at the traffic on an interface.
My traffic user count is not equal to traffic by domain.

When I tried asg 7 last year the reporting was not correct. I would download data and what asg reported was inaccurate amount. It would say a certain amount was downloaded over the WAN but it wasn't correct. At least this is what I remember but I could be thinking of untangle. 

Then I want to know if I could use asg in vmware to be a router. 
I'd have cable modem to router to switch.

Yes this is the case in some areas, but on "Network Security" the packet count is the amount of packets dropped by the FW/IPS.
In "Web Security" the traffic is the amount of data of files the proxy has processed. If the proxy serves content from the cache, the traffic appears in the total, even if it has not been downloaded.

For standard accounting, there can be a double accounting for traffic that has been handled by the proxy, this one gets listed twice.

this is correct, therefore i wrote that it is currently not possible to get the precise traffic per interface, only per traffic passed through the device.

That is strange, is it also the case in the traffic report from "yesterday"?
In the reporting we have a mechanism to track surf sessions. one 'per user' and one 'per user per domain', The first one show's the accurate duration a user/ip surfed the internet. the session gets written to database if there is no activity for the user for 5 minutes. 
The same thing happens with the 'per user per domain' session. 
Now it can happen that if user a you surfs 10 minutes on youtube and than goes to 10 minutes to facebook. the youtube session (per user per domain) has already been written to the database, but the 'per user' session not yet, as he is still surfing. This could be the reason for the difference.

I hope that was understandable.

My Traffic and Requests count Web Security reporting is identical, but the duration will vary. This will happen if a user starts surfen two domains at the same time, like in two windows or two tabs. If a user surfs in parallel 5min on youtube and 5 min on facebook. The user session will record 5min of surfing, but the some of the domains will show 10min. 

the higher the difference is, the more surf your users in parallel.

I don't think I explained the question on the traffic though the device very well. In theory the traffic on the external interface should be close to what the ISP shows in their statistics, from my checks the ASG count is significantly higher. There are exceptions eg where you access webadmin from the external interface from an internal address and as you advised proxy and packet filter traffic can be counted twice.

Therefore the traffic through the ASG is not really of much value other than statistic and maybe a load planner.

The daily report figures are very close, the ones with a difference are the "real time" tab counts in webadmin because they are reporting on different items.

I understand the explanation on the web usage per user against a site, thank you.
