No Email Notifications

i've been running 7.001 for about 14 days now.  i have not received a single email notification.  i have three different email accounts set to receive notifications, each from different domains.  i left the "sender" as the default of "do-not-reply@fw-notify.net".

in the packet filter i have:

(8) internal -> pop3 (ssl) -> any (allow)
(9) internal -> smtp -> any (allow)
(10) internal -> smtp (ssl) -> any (allow)

email security neither POP or SMTP proxies are on.

i do not have an internal mail server.

i am also not receiving backups by email, though i've configured it to do that too.

any ideas?  thank you all in advance!

    Atrius,
    the ASG internal mail is sent using the smtp proxy, even if you aren't using it.

    The packet filter rules you created will only affect your personal e-mails.

    From memory, your notification e-mails will be stuck in the quarantine manager, try enabling it and see if that helps. I am also not 100% sure, but you might need to enable the smtp proxy and configure the smarthost function, save it then disable.

    I know it doesn't make sense.

    Thanks for your reply.  I'm not familiar with using the SMTP proxy since I do not run my own mailserver.  I also do not know anything about smarthosts.  What would be some information I could put into the SMTP proxy to enable the smarthost function (and then disable it)?

    Go and activate SMTP Proxy --> insert an internal server - create a dummy... --> disable transparent mode --> click the advanced tab --> enable use smart host --> insert a smtp-server like smtp.gmx.de --> select this smart host requires authentication --> insert your smtp account data for your maildress from which you want to send mails... --> save anything! --> select management --> notifications  --> insert your mailadress from which you want to send mails - should be the same like your smarthosts address --> insert your notification recipients --> all done.

    Do I just "enable" this and that is it, then off to my Gmail my alerts will go, or do I have to start configuring stuff for my Comcast ISP before it can even go to Gmail?

    What if you do not have an internal email server?  I just want email alerts to be sent to my Gmail account.  Do I still have to do all this?


    I'm with Blueeyed.1978, I too want to get notifications sent to my gmail.  Any suggestions?

    Okay I am starting to become aggravated now.  I have not been able to receive email notifications from my ASG in Gmail.  I have enabled the SMTP Proxy, used the SmartHost function entered by ISP's SMTP information:

    and then for authentication I used by account name and password that was given to me.

    I am still not receiving any alerts in Gmail.

    I have verified that the email address under the Notifications section is correct... so now what?

    Any one have any other ideas that may work?

    I never had this problem before (nor did I have to use the SMTP Proxy to get alerts to my Gmail) in version 7.009.

    you might find that your gmail account is blocking the firewall messages. Do you have paid for e-mail account that you can send stuff to as a trial or where you can at least look at the anti-spam folders.

    Further questions. Have you by any chance changed the address in the sender?

    I send stuff to my hotmail account without a problem. To help with the issue I have disabled my smtp proxy and have enabled an smtp PF for my household users.

    Guys,
    testing so far. 1 paid account all notification e-mails delivered (3), 1 paid account and 1 free account nothing yet.

    I will check again in the morning and update thread on the result.

    The e-mails do get through without the proxy working. There is/are exceptions. None of my accounts that have a .com ending received any e-mails. My account with .net.au worked/s quite happily.

    Summation - there is a bug in the internal e-mail system that requires the smtp proxy to be enabled to allow .com messages out.

    1855 AUS time
    Just re-started the smtp proxy and all the stuck e-mails has appeared in the .com accounts.

    Hmmm weird, I did not have this problem in version 7.009 of the ASG, just anything after that version I have has issues with.  I was able to use my gmail.com, hushmail.com, and comcast.net accounts with no problems.  In version 7.009 I did not even have to change anything in the smtp proxy section (by turning it on or off with the use of dummy hosts or smart host changes, none of that).

         Do I need to make a packet filter rule like you did?  If so what would it be?
