I just tested with Trillian on WinXP, authenticated SOCKS5, appears to work OK.
Some things to try:
Release and renew your IP address Disable IDS and see if it works. I noticed there is a SOCKS scan rule in IDS and I think I set it to drop those and that may have stopped my SOCKS access since I had IDS on the internal network enabled..Something to check..

yes, you are right. it was the ips scan rule. now it works fine but it would be a verry nice feature if one could choose allowed services for socks. like one can in the http proxy.
