POP3 Proxy Error

I guess that would help. The error I receive in Outlook 2003 is a "Scanner error". All messages are not being downloaded.

intersting..i have not run into this issue here on my v5 hdd(when i run it)...the pop3 without spam filter works fine.  seems there are still some bugs in the pop3 module.

Correct. If I turn the SPAM feature off everything works fine, but as soon as I enable it, clients receive the Scanner Error in Outlook 2003. The error is intermittent, but it will stop you from receiving other messages.

I have the same problem with Outlook 2002. I also tried to disable spam protection, but it is not working all the time. In the beginning it works, later not.

To solve it, I disable the Pop3 proxy and created a rule to allow internal network Pop3 traffic. But this can not be a final solution. I would like to use POP3 proxy for virus protection and spam protection.

I think I have the same problem as reported here. 

I have created two packet filer rules
Internal Networt -> POP3 -> Any -> Allow
Any -> POP3 -> Internal Networt -> Allow

Then I switched on the POP3 Proxy and enabled the Spam protection. Everythink seems to work fine. After some hours, the POP3 Proxy stops working. 

I get an error "Can´t reach Server" or "Cannot resolve Host Name". After stopping and staring the POP3 Proxy, everthing werks fine again.

Anyone else with this problem?

Maybe the same problem.
The client is unable to receive mail as long as the pop3 proxy is enabled (independent from spam protection!).
error message is:
RETR Command. Error from POP3 Host: -ERR scanner error : TcpSocket.cpp:74:connect:socket(...) Error Error code: 24 System state: Too many open files."

Astaro 5.001.

Anyone else experiencing this issue. The pattern is not consistent at all. My clients receives approximately 1000+ messages per day. The POP3 proxy and SPAM protection will work fine for hours, then all of a sudden the Scanner Error appears on the clients. Shut down the POP3 proxy and then restart and all is well again. When I switch the clients back to the v4 box all is well.

between me and my wife we average about 600/day.  I will turn on the spam filter and see if it dies here..[:)]

yep it deid..also found a big problem in the pop3 module.  Am witholding disclosure to give astaro time to fix it(i notified them last night at around 10pm EDT).

Well at least I know its not just me. Off course it took replicating the issue on 3 sets of hardware before I believed it.

the pop3 proxy has a major issue that i had the displeasure of identifying..i have reported it to astaro and due to the nature of the problem i am witholding disclosure for now..right now the pop3 proxy IMO is unfit for use at any level.

Are there any working POP3 proxy work arounds?

My experence with the POP3 proxy at this point looks like this...

It just appears dead.  It doesn't appear to be handling any traffic at all.  I've tried turning off the SPAM filtering and that doesn't seem to change anything.  The POP3 log is blank, as is the proxy content manager.  I've also tired turning off the virus filtering and restarting the proxy after turning everything off and this doesn't seem to do anything.

Does this fit with the problems the rest of you are seeing?  Or the problem you've discovered William?

Like most, I'd like to have the POP3 working with at least the virus filtering on.

the issue i found has to do with file attachments....that is all i am going to say about it..since i am not a programmer i have no idea if all of this is related or not..[:)]  Astaro acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix that will be released,"in a future up2date" hopefully the next one.

Pop3 virus scanner is not working. I had one virus walk in. It was in an attachment. That is what William is referring to.

nope..nothing like that at all..[:)] If it were soemthing trivial like that i would have posted it immediatly instead of trying to give Astaro a chance to fix it before Full Disclosure.

Is the POP3 issue you are witholding :-) also in 4.021?

Yup, my client has exactly same problem. They have 18 PCs with POP3 emails, don't know count of messages per day. 
Proxy works probably for 20 mins, then gives out some error messages, don't have it handy - client's remote. 

Also, they bought specifically V5 because of spam protection on POP3, because they don't have their own mail server. 

For some only-known-to-Astaro reason V5.000 AND V5.001 aren't full releases. V5.002 will be. 
Stupid me I thought that V4.7 were betas and when V5 came out I thought it's a release. 
Now Astaro says there's nothing you can do apart of waiting for V5.002 release "in next couple of weeks", and as always going to be a month.

Well i have decided to not wait a month to disclose the error i found..but till monday of this coming week..[:)]
