Use SMTP proxy without paying for it...

Not trying to get away with anything, we have simply moved into using an external company now to scan for viruses/spam etc 

We have an exchange server in the 'inside' which for ages now I have simply setup the smtp proxy to pass all mail to.

Coming up to renewal time and I would like to not renew the SecureMail part

Is there anyway I can still allow our email to come though the astaro firewall

Using ver 7 at the mo.

    The answer is that you don't want to use the SMTP Proxy.  First, setup and enable a NAT rule like

    {External AV/SPAM service} -> SMTP -> 'External (Address)' : DNAT to {Mail Server}


    That now will capture all inbound SMTP traffic before the SMTP Proxy gets a look at it.

    Then, delete all the settings in the SMTP Proxy and disable it.

    It's that simple!

    We're considering moving our first layer of SMTP filtering to a cloud based offering to reduce spam and eliminate junk mail from using our Internet bandwidth.  All the appliance based solutions we have looked at seem to have issues dealing with phishing / spear phishing attacks and we're looking to get some additional protection from those.

    I'd like some opinions from anyone else that has made this move as well as any comments Bob may have to share [:)]
