ASG as Passby Device for SPAM Filtering

Is there a way to configure ASG v7/8 to act as a passby device rather than a pass-through. In other words (just to use spam filtering feature) ...

Email comes to pulic address
DSL Router (NAT) passes SMTP traffic to Private IP (of ASG)
ASG gets the message - spam filters - passes to email server on the same network

so the ASG has only one card connected to 192.168.1.253
DSL Router LAN IP  192.168.1.254
Email (exchange) Server  192.168.1.200

I realize that if one side of ASG is connected to WAN and the other to LAN this works (pass through), I wondering about ASG wotking strictly in LAN environment.  I know Barracuda Spam filter can be configured either as passby or passthrough. I prefer to use Astaro however, Thanks.

    That should work with no problem.  The SMTP Proxy is configured identically.

    If that is so, how do I get the ASG to pull updates from the LAN interface rather than WAN, Since my WAN is not connected, I keep getting the following error.

    "The spam filter daemon is unable to reach the database servers via HTTP. Please make sure that the device is able to send HTTP (TCP port 80) requests to the Internet. You may have to allow such traffic on upstream devices."

    NOTE: Internet is present on the LAN side in this sanario...

    Do you have Astaro DNS configured in 'Network Services'? Do you have a default gateway configured for the LAN interface?  Does your gateway device allow unproxied HTTP traffic, or do you need to cofigure the 'Paret Proxy' on the 'Advanced tab of SMTP'?
