Please tell us what domains (not the real names, for example, "domain1.com" and "domain2.com") you have and where they are hosted (in/outside your Astaro).

[I haven't configured Astaro to provide anti-spam/anti-virus for external mail servers before.  The idea I'll describe in a future post on this thread will depend on answers to this post.  It seems like I remember the SMTP Proxy assumes that mail servers are internal to the Astaro, but that we can overcome that with NAT if such is the case.  If someone else actually has done/tried this, please feel free to jump in!]

So, these are all domains you control?  You could change the MX records to point to an IP on the Astaro, and you could change the existing external mailservers to use the Astaro as a smarthost?

Let's just start with the internal mail server.  On the 'Global' tab, select 'Simple mode' for now.  On the 'Routing' tab, put 'domain5.com' in 'Domains', route by 'Static host list' and indicate the host definiton of your mail server. 'Verify recipients' already should be "with callout."

The 'Anti-Virus' tab likely is OK as is. On the 'Anti-Spam' tab, in the 'Advanced anti-spam features' box, I recommend NOT using 'Greylisting'.  In your situation, you might want to de-select 'Perform SPF check' until you are sure you've identified all of the forwarders your people might be using so you can create exceptions for them.

On the 'Exceptions' tab, I usually create an exception for the mail server for 'Extension blocking / Expression blocking / MIME type checks' so that users can include such things in emails they send.

On the 'Relaying' tab, in the 'Host-based relay' section, indicate your mail server.  At the bottom of that page, you likely want to select 'Scan relayed (outgoing) messages' for anti-virus.  At the top of that page, if your MX record points to a smart host instead of your Astaro, then enter the smart host there; otherwise, just leave it empty.

In your mail server, indicate the IP of the Astaro's 'Internal (Address)' as a smart host.  You should be up and running!

Thanks for the info, I've got the smtp working but there's still a hassle with pop3, i'm giving up for today.

In answer to your other questions, I do control the domains.
I don't want to change the mx records as there business critical and astaro is just on a test machine at the moment.

I got the some of the other domains to work - those that pointed to port 25 but the go daddy ones go out on port 80 and I couldn't quite figure it out.

Just to let you know, I've got the smtp and pop working without a problem on my local mailserver behind astaro.

I'm starting to get my head around Astaro and I'll have a go at the godaddy problem.
