550 SMTP Relay errors from notification service

I recently installed the gateway version 7 and have tried to set up the Management-Notifications with no success. When I examine the SMTP proxy logs it shows that my external mail server is rejecting the e-mails from the SMTP server with a 550 error.
From the log, my mail service provider (gmail) responds:
2008:10:31-00:44:21 (none) exim[11686]: 2008-10-31 00:44:21 0zN3QY-00032E-0f ** ME@gmail.com R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp: SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [74.125.45.114]: 550-5.7.1 [71.187.222.215] The IP you're using to send mail is not authorized\n550-5.7.1 to send email directly to our servers. Please use the SMTP\n550-5.7.1 relay at your service provider instead.

I'm probably doing something REALLY stupid but would really appreciate some help.
