v5 Spam filter never works

In v5 you can run the Spam filter in two areas.  One as part of the SMTP Proxy, the other in the POP3 Proxy.  Which one are you trying to use?

Sorry for the delay in my response was out of town. I am having trouble with the POP3 filter. No matter what I set it does not stop anything.

Got everything to work. Have the settings on

Pass: 2

Quarantine: 4

Catches 98% of spam will try a little more aggressive setting and add my contacts list to the whitelist so everyone I email will not be blocked. Also make sure you stop then start the pop3 proxy when changing settings. This helped me. Otherwise no other complaints. In fact pop3 proxy caught some viruses yesterday. Yeah!

Ok I set my settings to 2 & 4 like dayne did and then restarted the firewall. Still no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

Do you have a filter rule that might somehow be circumventing the Proxy?  Check the other POP3 Proxy settings very carefully, too.

an issue has been identified with regards to the whitelist-scaner error behavior. a fix is on the way...

Only thing I have set for the spam filter on POP is 3 addresses in the whitelist.

I think what Office Defender is asking is do you have a packet filter rule that is bypassing the pop3 proxy?

Or do you have HTTP Proxy allowing pop3 to go through it?

In my packet filters all i have are filters for online games. HTTP Proxy is configure as transparent and I have block connection method enabled. The service allowed are http, https, ldap, ftp-control and squid.

In the pop3 proxy i have the source network as internal network and destination as any.

I have virus protection enabled and spam protection enabled. I have now set my pass setting to : 1
and my quarantine setting to: 3

I have all the extension filters courtsey of William (BIG THANKS MAN!) and i have my whitelist set with most of my contacts list. I have a few expression lists....Cant say them here most are referenced to porn or win this or free that.

I have DNS proxy enabled and SOCKS proxy enabled. I have a MASQ NAT rule and I have SMTP Proxy enabled. For SMTP Proxy I have Smart Host enabled with all the ip addresses for my smtp servers that are hosted by another company. I have set my client to look for the internal ip address of my ASL box for the SMTP server. Left the password fields blank in the Smart Host settings. I dont have VPN enabled. 

All and all that is my setup and it works great! Hope this helps

The only proxy I am using is Pop and I know it is working because it has stopped attachments because of the Extension filters (mine also from William). BUT spam just slides right on through. 78% of my daily mail is spam and growing. I am using other appps on my pc to sort out the spam but would like  to have the firewall help a bit too.

So  you don't have any packet filter rules allowing traffic to bypass the proxy?

I don't know then cause i am running on the same version of asl as you and my pop3 spam is working great.

There must be some setting that you are overlooking.

Maybe if you told us in detail all the settings that you have we may be able to find it for you. 

You must have some packet filter rules setup. How are you going online if you don't have the HTTP Proxy running?

Nope no HTTP Proxy. I have my fiirewall set open for out but restricted  for traffic in. HTTP Proxy causes too many hassles when I have LAN partys so I limit in by packet rules but I have it open for outgoing traffic. As for rules that would allow anything to bypass the POP proxy, none. I can give you more in depth info when I get home (don't have my config memorized...yet    )
