My First Flexi

Hey all,

I just installed my first Flexi-Port module.  Seems weird with all of the work that I do with Sophos, but there it is.

Anyway, the module that I installed is the 8-port copper.  I followed the directions (powered down, removed power to the appliance, ensured that the appliance was still grounded to the rack, carefully installed the module, and restored power) but I can't seem to see the new interfaces anywhere in the SG's GUI.

As the appliance is being configured for a client, I haven't activated it quite yet (will be doing this later on this week) so it's running on it's 30-day license still.

Questions:
- Does the appliance need to be licensed in order to recognize the Flexi-Port module?
- Where does the Flexi-Port configuration usually appear?  I'd assume that there would simply be more interfaces listed in the hardware tab and that I'd be able to configure them as I can configure the other built-in ports, but is this assumption correct?

I didn't have much luck in finding any documentation on configuring the Flexi-Port (probably because it's just *that* easy/intuitive).

    Correct, should be interfaces in the Hardware Tab.

    After it is plugged in, running or during boot, do you see any lights go on for the module?  Any errors in the Kernel Messages Log?

    I would update to the latest firmware version and try again; I seem to recall some issues in earlier firmware releases with flexi-port module installation.  If that doesn't work, time to call support, you probably got a bad module.

    Thanks for the response.  I applied the license file and still don't have anything in my hardware tab other than the default interfaces (no module interfaces listed).

    do you see any lights go on for the module?

    No lights.
    Any errors in the Kernel Messages Log?

    No, nothing.
    update to the latest firmware version

    Firmware version: 9.315-2

    Do you guys have any other suggestions before I send it back as defective?

    Hello again,

    I powered down the SG and removed the Flexi and reinstalled using the steps originally.  It's working now!

    Not sure what the difference was (other than the fact that I was dreading having to send the thing back and go through the whole RMA process -which, admittedly, I haven't had to do with Sophos yet so my dread was based on past experiences with other manufacturers).

    Problem solved.  Thanks for your insights.
