I have Astaro V7 running on IBM xSeries 335.

Go straight to the latest ISO and update from there. You will not be able to update from v7.5. You might get away with a restore configuration, but be prepared to start from scratch.

This assumes fast CPU of around 3ghz, 4gb ram and two intel/broadcom nics, otherwise you will need new hardware. You are using a 2004 server, I doubt whether it will go very well, but you can try?

Wow, all that power for a home firewall, it's perfect!  MY HW is a bit lacking so I will be looking at my HW stash to see if I can recycle anything.

You should be able to go straight from 7.513 to 9.315.  I've done a 7.51? to V9.2 restore.  Take a look at The Zeroeth Rule in Rulz before you decide what you want to do.  Note that using that trick does change all of the certificates.

Hi Bob. I remember you too... : ) I remember everyone helped me a lot in my early days use of ASG. : )  

My old nickname, Javelin, doesn't work anymore.  I had to re-register so I'm starting all over.

I've been with ASG since I don't know what version but I also got the 50IP home license, I think it was 100-IP at one time, don't remember but, as reward for helping, then ASG, with troubleshooting and debugging.... : )

Anyway, I'm getting me a used IBM server with dual-core proc 3.06Ghz and 8GB of ram sometime tomorrow. I'm going to use it for my V7 to V9 upgrade and work with it until it's working right while keeping the original V7 up and running.  Will definitely do more reading before jumping in.

Just a quick update - this was the simplest migration and I was expecting it would take a lot of work.

Went directly from v7 to v9 on a newer hardware too; 8cpu core and 8Gb ram running 64bit on IBM System x3550.

After installing the latest UTM, restored my v7 backup and I was up and running in about 5 minutes. Happy with the upgrade...

8 cores?  I hope you have a ton of users for that system or sub 200 megabit wan or you are going to have performance problems.

Went to one of those PC recyle shop and the guy told me the unit comes with only two(2) cpus and 8Gb ram. I noticed it also has one 1Gb mgmt net, dual 1Gb net, two 74Gb scsi drives and dual power supply and fans, and I thought only two cpu? I offered $35 and he took it.

I got home, power it up and to my surprise, it has 8 cpu cores...unit is a quad [:)]

I tried doing the link-aggregation feature, it configured and worked, but it would occasionally drop one link and the switching isn't fully transparent; eg, when it drops a link and you're online, there's a delay or pause and it's very annoying. So, I unconfig'd link agg and all's well. Will probably go back and play with this some other time.

I have three power users in the house... I'm expecting they'll soon want to have their own dedicated network.
