Installation Fails @ 75%

Hello,

I am new to the Sophos Home UTM product line but I have a little past experience with PFsense and other firewalls. I am currently trying to install Sophos Home UTM 9.3 on my new home firewall. I tried using the hardware download file but that errored out telling me it couldn't find hardware. After that I took the next logical step and downloaded the software iso. After burning it on to a DVD (as the PC does not accept boot from USB) it booted and ran the install process until 75% where it then errors out. Checking the logs using alt+F4 it says that its some IO error but I have absolutely no clue what it could be. I really hope somebody can help here.

    IO usually has something to do hardware related.  The Hardware ISO is NOT what you want if you are installing this on a PC to use for your firewall, you are going to want to use the Software ISO.

    USB installations can be done, but you have to do some steps, which can be found on these forums.  

    What is the exact error you are getting?  What is your hardware setup that you are using?

    Hi, 

    So I tried to copy the log onto the usb stick but it wouldn't recognise my usb sticks so I have attached the error part of the log in a picture below. The error now occurs when its installing. I am using an old fujitsu pc with an intel pentium D and 2 gigs of ram. As I have researched that should work.

    So I have finally been able to install the UTM onto my pc. Issue was a bad cd or iso. Now after having set up the UTM and setting the standard ip to 192.168.1.1 it isn't assigning any IP's to my computer so I can start configuration through the UI. I also am not able to access the UTM if i switch the cables. LAN & WAN... any suggestions?

    Assuming you assigned 192.168.1.1 to your internal interface during the initial installation and connecting a PC to that interface, try typing 192.168.1.1:4444 to access the web UI

    Hi, rbertolini, and welcome to the User BB!

    Issue was a bad cd or iso.

    Thanks for coming back to share that.  Most of us buy cheap optical media, so I always recommend burning at no faster than 4x.

    The instructions tell you to set your TCP/IP properties for your PC's interface to 192.168.1.x/24 to start the initial install.

    Hello Bob, 

    Thanks for the speedy reply. Well I still have the problem that the UTM isn't assigning an IP address to my PC so i can't even access the UTM. I have setup the UTM again but this time without any cables plugged in to see if that makes a difference. It turns out no its the same. UTM finishes install successfully but then does not assign any NIC DHCP so I can start to configure it... any ideas?

    Ohh wow finally.. Its running it just took some time and then i set the IP settings manually on my PC i think thats what you also said before ... [:P]  but yes its online. Just really slow like really slow with 1GB of RAM :/

    up it to 4 and watch the magic after you reinstall with the 64 bit option..[:)]

    depends on which atom you are referring too..if the d series no....the new rangley?  yeppers depending on wan speed...number of users and which modules you want to use.
