Older i5 work OK?

I have an older Lynnfield i5-750 that isn't being used. I was thinking that I would get a mobo and use it for the Sophos box. 

I know it's older tech, but it should be alright, yes? I've been reading about how some of the processes like higher clock speeds. Would I be better served getting something with more MHZ, like a Pentium Anniversary edition and OCing it to 4.0 MHZ?

    A NAS may contain irreplaceable data (pictures, documents).

    Many other servers do not.

    With that thought in mind, what hard drive do you recommend using for a home server that will store pictures, docs, videos, etc? Is the WD Red series OK, or do you think a full blown enterprise drive is required?

    wd RE series or something similar..  5 year warranty and certified for 24/7 operations.  I would not use anything like snapraid...if you are going to run windows use windows dynamic disks for RAID 1.  if using Linux use mdraid for raid 1 or 10.

    OK so for server 12 essentials r2 (I have a free copy, thanks dreamspark!) what disk arrangement would you suggest? I was thinking 1 for the os, and 2 more with dfs replication enabled.

    At home, I try to use RED or Seagate's equivalent.

    I'm using FreeNAS with RAID Z1 (ZFS), which is similar to RAID5.

    I wouldn't put anything critical on anything less than RAID1, 5, or 6.
    AND still have backups.
