Re-imaging SG with 9.x fails

Hi,

got 2 brand new SG 330 from Astaro with 9.111-7. Want to update then to 9.205 with re-image from iso file, to avoid u2date 5 ore more times.

Got the iso file from astaro ftp server, made CD of it, tried to install with an CD-ROM drive with ATA/USB adapter.
Installation starts, made HW Checks, then partioned the drives, tried to mount... and then stuck with "install.tar not on installation media". Same with other CD, other iso Image (9.111-7).

I think, the UTM doesn´t find the CD-ROM after partitioning and remounting

Do i need a "special" USB-CD-ROM drive? Or may i use a special USB stick.

Found similar problems of other users with usb stick, but i had a drive...

Any ideas

  • Thomas, make sure you have the hardware ISO and not the one for the software appliance.  Burn the CD at 4x or less with the same USB CDROM drive you're using to install the SGs.  Any luck?

    Cheers - Bob

  • Please check out the link below -- if you are using the SSI ISO, these instructions can still help:

    https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/52/t/28676

Note that although these detailed instructions are for the software ISO (make sure you are using the "SSI" ISO as others have said), the part about how to dump into the console and manually perform the mount operation still apply.  It's a stupid bug (and has been around a LONG time), and would be easy to fix, but it just hasn't been yet.

  • I have have to SG devices and I used the ISO for 9.202 and it installed fine..

I also have done it for all the other UTM with the ISO install and had no issues.
  • Matt, the problem he is having is not with the ISOs -- rather, it's a known bug in the installer routine that fails with some USB drives...see my post above.

  • Hi guys,

at least, some problems are soo easy to fix.
The solution was.... just using a newer CD-ROM Drive on the USB/ATA-SATA adapter!!

Cause the installation kernel wasn´t able to find the driver for the "old" CD-ROM drive.
Thanks to Bruce, i´ve studied /var/log/messages and install.log, found the cd-rom drive wasn´t found correctly.

After switching to a newer CD-ROM drive installation went thru with no workaround needed.

Thank you guys for your hints[:)]
