Can't Login

I have tried logging in with multiple clients.

When logging onto the console with root and no password it tells me password invalid and them comes up with a utmuser prompt.

I even tried another VM with standard nics instead of the HyperV nics, same result.

When it asks for the default gateway on the setup screen I am leaving that blank, but the internal IP I use for it is part of my subnet.

I am at a loss. I am going to try one more time with only Intel nics in a box I have to try again.

Joe, are you scrolling all the way down to the bottom and accepting the license agreement? After that, do you give it a minute or so to complete its set up? After that it should restart WebAdmin before you get a chance to enter your admin and password.

Yep I accept the license agreement, it flashes to allow 40 seconds to complete.

Then I get another cert error, I click through this and get the login screen.

I enter admin and password "the one I chose on the previous screen" and it just sits there on the login screen with no errors or any other messages for that matter.

And I cant login to the console using root and no password as some have suggested, it tells me login incorrect and then the prompt changes to utmlogin instead of login.

Odd indeed... Both on a virtual and physical machine.

This is really embarassing but it is the truth.

All this time I have been clicking on the Green Arrow next to login instead of the actual login button.

Once I click on the LOGIN BUTTON and not the green arrow it came up.

That appears to be a UI bug (in 9.113 too) in the WebAdmin login screen.

Inspecting the elements with Chrome/IE the allows you to see the difference between the three divs that comprise the entirety of the "button" - only one (login text) has the onclick action. Visually the green arrow is part of the button because of the surrounding outline and shading.  Better to wrap all three in a div and put the action there?

I'm still puzzled by the non-functional initial root login with no password - I built a 9.205 software appliance under ESXi and it worked for me.

Joe, we all knew it had to be something simple like that.  If you'd asked a friend to look over your shoulder two days ago, you would have solved it then and had a good laugh together.  We all get hung up on false assumptions all the time.

Back in the last semester of college, a buddy and I, both math majors, were working on our final exam for a really tough math course.  A three-day take-home with five questions on the top half of one page.  Little more than a half-inch of blank space between one question and the next.  The instruction at the top said that we could use the bottom of the page, the back or additional pages if necessary.  This was the prof's little joke because each correct answer would fit in the small space provided.

One question answered got you a C- and three a B+.  I was struggling to get a third answer and it was the last night before we had to turn in our answers in the morning.  I saw Jim reading a cheap Sci-Fi novel, and told him I hadn't finished yet.  He said that he hadn't either, but that he was not getting anywhere and was trying to forget the solutions he'd been trying by reading the book.  I always think of that moment as one of the most important lessons I learned in college!
