New Mini-ITX Build Questions

This is my first time building a computer from scratch so please bear with me if I've made a mistake. And I looked through the unofficial hardware thread for ideas. Below is a system I was thinking about building for home use. I have two questions if someone could help me with. One, I'm not to sure on the power supply. I was trying to go with minimal power requirements to save energy, but it's not a deal breaker. Will the one I selected power the system efficiently or will it be under powered? My second question was about the PCIe dual gigabit nic card. I'm fairly certain I found a dual gigabit PCIe card that will work on the motherboard I have selected, I would appreciate if someone with a little more experience could double check my research? 

I've already set up the Sophos UTM on a spare workstation and love it so far. Building a mini-ITX would be fun and look nicer where the cable modem sits. I appreciate and help/suggestions you may have.

    Hi,

    for Home Use and low power I would also either recommend a low voltage CPU or an ATOM based Mainboard.

    I also would strongly recommend you a server based M/B. Have an eye on it that it has IPMI interface. This way you will have a remote GUI, KVM to Lan and other features. You will "never" have to connect a display to that unit anymore.

    I am personally a huge fan of Supermicro M/B's. Usually the Products with -F at the end got IPMI interface.

    asrockrack (from AsRock, an ASUS company) also has a few M/B with IPMI. But I never had one or have any experience with these.

    If you got a display, keyboard and so on connected anyway to that device then it will not matter if you got IPMI or not.

    My personal opinion is that, especially for Home Use, that a ATOM based M/B is more than enough. 

    I got a ATOM Based Supermicro  X7SPA-HF-D525 which runs an ATOM D525 with 4GB RAM.
    Total cost was about 250,- € with power supply, case and so on.
    This is used in our company for our small office. Running 42 VLan (each with one system, for end testing purpose), and 5 PC's, 8 VOIP Phones and VPN site to site to our main Office on a 100MBit Connection. Data runs mainly over the tunnel. Only normal websurfing isn't tunneled.
    Loads and so on look quite good, of course there are some time peaks, but there are no breakdowns, waiting times, or things that slow down anything.

    So I would say that for home use a ATOM is enough and of course cheaper in total cost.
    Of course the more power you got the nicer it is. 

    In the main branch we have the Sophos virtualized on a Blade System, 3 units each Dual Socket. On a 2x100MBit Outside Connection. Protecting about 120 Clients and 8 Servers with about 60 VLan's. About 8 VPN Connections the same time and quite a lot of traffic coming from outside and inside.
    In this environment an ATOM would and also probably the i3 would not be enough. 

    For home I have the Sophos virtualized on an ESXi 5.5 with a XEON E3 and 32GB RAM. But the Sophos got only 4GB RAM, max. 3000 CPU Power. Everything looks even smoother there. With all VM's the CPU load is most of the time at under 1000Mhz. (And one VM need constantly about 350MHz). 

    If I would not have it virtualized at home I would go with an ATOM.

    Just my opinion and my thoughts on that.
    Maybe others have other experience.
