UTM support for ARM CPUs

Hello,

I would like to run the UTM appliance on a simple ARM box - unfortunately I can’t find any details on the portal if they are supported or not
(just an old statement that old ARM are not supported as they don’t meet the minimal performance requirements  anyway [GHz+RAM])

As nowadays quiet powerful ARM boxes are available I want to ask if those CPUs are supported in general?

e.g.: MINIX NEO X7
Quad-Core Cortex A9-Prozessor (1,6 GHz) + 2 GB RAM

From the specs itself that box exceeds the minimal requirements of the UTM9.

I would assume that the CPU should be powerful enough (especially for limited private use) but are there any technical restrictions for ARM CPUs per se or should it be possible to run the UTM on such a device?

    ARM isn't supported at this time.  I doubt we will see ARM support anytime soon.

    Does anything (that isn't embedded) in the rest of Sophos product line appear to be ARM based?

    UTM9 is based on Suse Linux Enterprise Server.  I know of no ARM version of SLES.

    Even if Sophos were to develop/release ARM support I doubt it would be released for BYO hardware - there is just too much variation in ARMspace.

    If ever then probably not before UTM 11 (or whatever succeeds 10) but that is probably 2+ years away and even then is probably "too soon".

    (I'm "just a user" with no insider knowledge.)

    Further research shows the earlier version of the arm chips are definitely not intel compatible, but not sure about the versions that run late model widows phones?

    Hi,

    Nope... ARM is ARM.
    Windows 7/8 mobile is ARM-only, afaik.
    Windows CE is mostly ARM, iirc.
    Windows 8 desktop/tablet has (separate) x86, x86-64, and ARM versions; e.g. some Surface tablets are ARM and some (Pro) are i3/i5/i7 mobile, and there may be some Atoms (x86/x86-64).

    AMD is talking about making a dual-chip with both ARM and x86-64 cores, but the OS & software stack will have to be adapted to take advantage.
