UTM support for ARM CPUs

Hello,

I would like to run the UTM appliance on a simple ARM box - unfortunately I can’t find any details on the portal if they are supported or not
(just an old statement that old ARM are not supported as they don’t meet the minimal performance requirements  anyway [GHz+RAM])

As nowadays quiet powerful ARM boxes are available I want to ask if those CPUs are supported in general?

e.g.: MINIX NEO X7
Quad-Core Cortex A9-Prozessor (1,6 GHz) + 2 GB RAM

From the specs itself that box exceeds the minimal requirements of the UTM9.

I would assume that the CPU should be powerful enough (especially for limited private use) but are there any technical restrictions for ARM CPUs per se or should it be possible to run the UTM on such a device?

    Hi and welcome aboard,
    why the idea of using an ARM processor? My reading of the arm series of CPUs is that that they are not intel/amd x86 or x64 compatible.

    There are plenty of low power boards around, but you need to consider your internet link speed before deciding on a chipset. There some of the new intel i3s that are quite low power and do a very good job as UTM.

    Hi,

    My intention is to run the UTM on such a small low performance device as I don’t use much of the UTM features and therefore want to run it on such a  small low coast box that will just consume minimal energy (most efficiently).

    Also I just want to simply place it beside my dsl router (don’t want loud, big & expansive hardware) 

    If that kind of hardware is supported why not using it if it’s sufficient for my purposes.

    Hi,
    that is a sentiment shared by most of us home users. However there are a number of devices that provide those features that are known to work with the UTM software. 

    Please investigate some of the other threads in this forum about this subject and you might look at a fanless intel atom series, around 2w for the CPU. Then you will need at least 2-4gb ram, 2 nic and a 60gb (ssd). The real issue with low power box from what I have found is trying to find efficient powersupplies.

    I suspect you will end up using more features of the UTM, just because they are there.
