*-network UNCLAIMED on WiFi PCIe adapter

Hi there you all,

Been playing a bit with UTM 9.2 home and it's impressive to say the least. really like what i've seen yet !!

Small question though i'm currently running 9.201-23.1 on a intel nuc unit.
These NUC units have an optional mPCIe slot where a WiFi adapter Intel Centrino N 6235 can be installed. This is my setup, though UTM 9.2 say's this about that physical adapter (lshw -C network):

  *-network UNCLAIMED

Any idea if this will maybe with some wizardry somehow appears in the interfaces list in the GUI ? that'l be rather cool in order to move on and build my WiFI AP =)

    WiFi NICs are not supported by the UTM.

    Nahhh dont tell me that pleeaaaasssseee!!! 2 devices is not an option for me...
    As much as i like the approach, setting network definitions and so on, two devices is a full stop for me.

    Barry or else; there is really no plans to be able to run hostapd on the UTM system itself ? i mean everything seems ready for that i'd say... What is the reason behind this??

    Actually i'm trying to figure out the best xMG available. And damn it i really like Sophos UTM but IPFire and pfSense are both able to:

    •  being setup from a serial console headless based device (very common game for firewall and such)
    •  running hostapd from any present WiFi adapters, building a "dmz'ed" WiFi network segment on & from the xMG itself

    So i can't clearly understand "why" this is not possible on Sophos. Maybe the answer is as simple as selling APxx ??? Or the Wireless protection can only work with APxx and so on...

    Though, my goal is to have one device that does it all, Security & WAN/LAN/WIFI/VPN.
    The other two aforementioned piece of software does it but clearly with the lack of depth Sophos undoubtedly has on the controls available, security features, incredible proxy features and so on.

    Clearly, if i could have hostapd with my WiFi card on my Sophos UTM 9.2  device i'd stop looking further. On top of that i dont think that implementing this is a huge thing, everything seems there...

    FWIW, Astaro 6 had WiFi AP support; I ran a Prism2 card in mine for a few years, but having the small antenna on the back of a steel computer chassis (case) was not very effective.

    Also, I don't think you can get MIMO, etc. on a single card.

    Maybe in 9.3. It´s finally a PM decision based on feedback from R&D, as it implies lot of work to deliver and mainatin such drivers. As the new SG1xx w Appliances also include wireless anyway, there are at least thoughts to MAYBE support other built-in WIFI cards too as AP.
