ASG220 Rev 1 - WebAdmin Issues

Hi Astaro Peeps,

I have a ASG220 Rev 1 which I have acquired somehow, it had no hard drive so I brought a cheap 80GB IDE 2.5" from amazon, downloaded the 8.311 ISO from the Astaro FTP site, installed OK.

Once the unit booted i noticed on the LCD it came up with Busy 100% and WebAdmin first config went slower than normal but still completed successfully.

When I came to log in for the first time after all post-install config was completed, I entered the user and password but the timeout pop came up 5 times and it still tried to log in. 

I then restarted the unit and came to log in and it is still very slow and timing out.

Any Ideas?

    I installed ASG ver 8.311 (ssi-8.311-5.1.iso)

    Hi, adding some RAM, if possible, should help.

    Otherwise, maybe give it some time to settle down and see if it speeds up.

    Actually, that model may be hardware-limited to 512MB, in which case it's not going to run well.

    The basic system with no IPS, no proxies, etc. should run, but webadmin will be slow, etc.

    Thanks i'll leave it running all day and leave it and see if it starts to get better response.

    Just an update - I have left it running for 3 1/2 hours and it seems to settled down, I can login without timeouts and I am getting 

    35% CPU, 70% RAM (512MB), 36% SWAP (1GB) and 2% each on DATA (26GB) and LOG (34GB)

    Just about to disable IPS.

    OK. You may also need to disable most or all of the reporting; keep an eye on the memory graphs and see if it spikes up at night.

    Hi, 270797lb, and welcome to the User BB!

    I would think that you could use a 512MB unit for firewalling, routing and logging only, no IPS, no Web Filtering, no Reporting, nothing else.  If you can find an old copy of V6, you probably could use more capabilities.

    Hi BarryG and BAlfson,

    I disabled some monitoring as I am not one for reading logs, been on now for about 30 hours and only time it has used more was when I was on YouTube.

    Balfson, thanks for having me on here. I cannot even find V7. I have Web Filtering on as an extra thats about it and it is running OK.

    Before hand it was running quite hot but now it is almost freezing. I like the look of the SG models but I think being 16, they are out of my price range.
