Anyone played with X9SBAA-F?

Hi,

I started looking for Hardware running UTM in an home enviroment. ATM I'm using the virutal appliance on my homserver, but I would like to restructure my complete setup in the feature and I plan to spend some money into a deticated hardware for the UTM. One point important for me is the power consumption of the system and an additional wish would be to get an nice 19" case for the setup. While my research I found the X9SBAA-F board by supermicro. It has a very low power consuption and there are nice supermicro cases available for an affordable price.

The question is: is the cpu fast enough and is the hardware compatible with UTM? Has anyone tried to run UTM on that board? I found a thread about the board but maybe there are some other users since that?

    thanks for your feedback. ATM my internet speed is 16k, but I hope to get 50k in the next month. The Avoton series is also very interesting with much better performance but comparable idle power consumption. On the other hand they are still very expensive (~400 bucks for a supermicro board?)

    You are right about the 19" cases, noise is a pain with them but I tough i would maybe give a supermicro "low noise power supply" a chance. As I prefer a 19" solution I primarly check out all possibilities about that first. If I can't find a nice solution I will go for more convinient hom-user formats.

    I do not have a real DMZ, ATM there are some services available from the net, but they will be "removed" when i restructure my network (to a dedicated/vserver in the net). Also I have only one LAN, but I'm thinking about getting a second one for a guest wlan.

    So you would suggest getting a much more powerfull platform?
