USB recovery failure

Actually we install a complete farm of UTMs around the world for a company.

Today we tried the recovery scenario by reinstalling a backup on a USB device.

Always the hardware wants to boot from USB if we enter it before powerup. So the system never comes up, with a plugged in USB Device. We tried FAT and also FAT32 with the restore.abf

Hardware UTM220 purchased 3 weeks ago.

Does this problem exist everywhere? could someone confirm it?

Anyway ... the solution for reinstall the backup is, the user onsite has to connect a  monitor an wait until the grub prompt appear. now plugin fast the USB device.

  • Hi, that has also been my experience with some non-Astaro/Sophos hardware.

Maybe there's a BIOS setting that would help?

  • Check bios settings... the system is probably trying to boot from your usb device.

  • It sounds like the USB device is or has been bootable.

  • I could confirm that the device was simply formated to FAT or FAT32 and it is not bootable. I killed all partitions and investigated the stick for bootable signs.

I will do some more tests next week.
  • I understand that it is changeable in Bios, but for the recovery scenario with an unexperienced user it is a heavy task [[[;)]]]

Sometimes customers do stupid things in the config and get locked out [[[;)]]] i believe all of you know that situation.[[[;)]]] i want to send them the prepared backup file to copy to any usb flash, plugin and powercycle.
