ap50 wireless access point rebooting

Hello once again.

At great expense, i have purchased a second-hand AP50. Regrettably the AP50 did not ship with the original power supply, meaning I have had to find another power supply that fits the 12V and 1000mA power rating.

Luckily i DID find one that fits the bill exactly. 12v, 1000ma

Annoyingly my new AP50 keeps rebooting. 

UTM9 registers the presence of the ap50 ... and allows me to administer wireless networks etc.

However, as soon as i try to join any wireless device to the ap50 or surf the net with an already registered device the unit reboots. The power LED goes off, as does the 'network connectivity' LED.

So... I am wondering some things:

1. Is a mis-matched / non standard power unit likely to cause this kind of behaviour.
2. If it turns out that there is some hardware problem with the unit, what path of recourse do i have with Sophos? Would they fix an issue on a unit bought second hand?
3. HELP! I REALLY don't want to have wasted such a large amount of money.

    Do you have a PoE switch or injector you can try as an alternative to the power supply?

    If not, try to measure the output voltage from the power supply WHILE it is plugged into the AP, and make sure it is still 12V.

    No. I have no PoE injector. And right now, i;m LOATHED to spend another £25 - £30 on one only to find that its incompatible. Or hasn;t got the right voltage. or some other niggling little issue which means i have to spend more money fixing it.

    My next step is to try a power adapter that can supply MORE than 1000mA of power. Maybe there is some very fine barrier between 1000mA and 1000mA that I'm not aware of.

    For any other users experience this issue, my AP50 unit seems to have settled down now. 

    Don't ask me what the original problem was, or why it fixed itself... but i woke up this morning and the thing seems stable.

    Its weird because last night i dreamed that I logged into the unit, only to find that UTM9 had been firmware updated to a new version. Did I fix it with my dream? Who knows. Sure as hell not me though.
