ASG 220 factory reset and upgrade from V6

Hi,

I have an ASG220 and want to factory reset the device, log in and then upgrade it to a later version of the required software. The admin password is unknown and thus the reason for the reset!

When I go through the factory reset on the front panel I get ten beeps from the device. At this point it seems to hang and I am unable to access the device.

I tried logging a support ticket but was told I needed to upgrade as V6 is no longer supported.

Anyone got any ideas?

    The devices are about 8 years old but to my knowledge work perfectly well and have no hardware issues.

    I'm just trying to get them up and running for the new owner. It seems silly to have to spend money on new hardware only to waste these. 

    To be honest if that is the only available option from Sophos the chances are I will go with another manufacturer.

    Well, that's the way it goes in IT (not only Sophos)...
    Devices get old, run out of support, become EOL and thus don't get any updates. I don't know other manufacturers that support such old devices (and yes, 8 years IS old for a complex electronic device)...

    Don't get me wrong: You will most likely be able to configure V7, but you will neither get security updates nor receive pattern updates (for IPS, AV, etc.) or get support. I also don't know if future licenses will work on V7.

    Second what scorpionking says. Everything in IT eventually goes obsolete. 

    I've got a stack of PIX 500's sitting in my office that are no longer supported by Cisco. They still run just fine but are so far behind on the iOS release that it wasn't worth keeping them in service. I even still have Netware 3.x disks floating around. Still works fine on the old 486 paperweight but beyond useless nowadays.
