power saving - any Idea?

other than shutting it down it's going to use the least it can when not active..but it needs to be active to work.

As William said there isn't any way to. And given that this software is oriented towards businesses and enterprises where things always need to stay on, I doubt they'll add an auto power down feature anytime soon.

For home use, given your machines low power draw, you could get one of those automatic lamp timers and program it to go on and off as your house wakes & sleeps. Add in a manual control of some kind and you're golden.

Also that said, 10-15W is nothing in the overall scheme. If you're trying to green your house, you're better off looking at larger appliances and/or the lights you currently have. Replacing a single 40W incandescent with a CFL or LED (10-15W max) will more then cover any wasted power due to leaving the UTM on.

This is likely to (sooner or later) cause corruption of Astaro's filesystem and/or databases, which would result in an unstable and/or unusable system.

Also, power-cycling electronics shortens their life... if you're already running under 20watts, any savings you gain may be lost to early hardware failure.

15w running 24/7/365 @ $0.16 per KWH is only about $21 per YEAR in power consumption.  A timer would use at least that much in vampire power.  Not worth the trouble.  Actually a lot of places are way less that $0.16/kwh as well.

Thanks to all. Power prices are at 0.33 $/kwh in germany for your interest.
But all of you have given me interesting thoughts and hints and ot's finalized fir me.
