ASG220 RAM Upgrade successfully

Hello,
I realize that there are a lot of Threads regarding a RAM upgrade, but i never found a helpful Answer how to do a 100% working upgrade. So maybe this helps:

We have an ASG220 rev2 with 1GB RAM factory installed.
I upgrade this Device to 9.004-34.
After this, i change the original RAM Module to a 2GB Kingston KTH9600BS/2G Module.
After reboot the ASG shows 2GB RAM in Web GUI, RAM Usage decrease from 85% to 60%.
Easy Job, no BIOS update or other "hacks" necessary. Unit is working fine since a week.

    Hallo Marcohh!

    Can you provide us the first 6 Characters of the Box Serial-No to match the exact Type?

    Is it right, that you updated to v9 before adding RAM? How have you done this? My Rev2 Box with 1 GB RAM says "current hardware of this appliance prevents it from running UTM 9".

    PS: my Rev2 Box is not used in production environment anymore.

    Hm, but A120... Serial is a Rev4 not a Rev2!?

    Another question: Which CPU is running in your Box? (cat /proc/cpuinfo)

    Hi, the appliance installer will not install on modified systems.

    Install v9 first, and THEN install the new RAM.

    up2date will still work.

    Actually 4GB of RAM works perfectly in the ASG and UTM 220. All of my units were upgraded and run so much smoother. I'm not sure why they skimp on RAM. It's not like it is expensive. 4GB RAM Module - $53.00.

    which ASG revisions do you have and which RAM modules are you using?

    Here is the RAM that I use for the ASG 220 Rev.4 and the UTM 220 Rev.5

    CT2KIT25664BA1339 - 4GB kit (2GBx2), 240-pin DIMM , DDR3 PC3-10600 from Crucial.com

    I used 4GB in each of our 2 ASG220 rev4 since the first day.
    The support has never had a problem with that.

    The only thing......i had to remove one of the two 2GB Modules if i want to install a new Image from the Installer-CD (SSI) - but that isn't a great problem.

    It would be nicer if there where a way to edit the specs which are used from the installer to detect the used Hardware-Appliance.

    The Modules i used in our two ASG220 rev4 are Kingston KVR10066D3S8N7/2G

    Hi .

    As you said , its not an issue to add RAM , and it is always good.
    4 things need to be remembered:

    1) as you already told and other mentioned , new install won't work and the appliance won't recognized as appliance.

    2) upgrade to new Ver ( like between 8 to 9 )
    Won't pass also .

    In both case removing the extra RAM will work.

    3) if an RMA is needed , you will need to remove it.

    4) if might break your warranty .
