Cheap soultions for a sophos utm gateway?

Forget the Celeron, get  real chip like a low power i3 which last longer before an upgrade is required and is very low power.

True may try someday a vm server type environment so I can do a nas with it but still unsure. Just would be more hassle than it could be worth. May just buy a low end motherboard a dual core with at least 2gb ram and a 60GB SSD drive [:D]

actually i have a hyper-v box doing something similar.  

I have server 2008 enterprise installed with the hyper-v role.  Under the hyper-v role are the following:

1. server 2008 enterprise as a/d primary controller and it is my primary data server with 1 TB of dedicated hdd space from the soft dynamic raid1 primary array that the host is also running on.
2.  sophos acc4 (on second 500 gig soft raid 1)
3.  utm9 (on second 500 gig soft raid 1)
4. server 2008 enterprise acting as a natural selection gaming server. (on second 500 gig soft raid 1)

the host machine acts as a backup ad controller only.  no file service are provided by this machine although the host is also the back print server.

Could but how hard is it to configure the box to protect your entire network in that configuration? I do not want to do active directory that is a nightmare in its self for a home network really it is. Possibly may get server 2012 someday to add to the mix but it needs some horse power. The machine I have the gateway on now is an old dell P4 1.3 GHz Processor 2GB ram 80GB Hdd works great with all services.  But may still someday do the dual core 2 GB ram with a 60GB SSD. Also not sure if P4 supports hyper v

2012 is the nightmare with tht stupid metro ui..it's not that hard actually..[:)]

you need tons o ram for this setup.  i'm running 10 gigs in my host right now going to 16 really fast.

Yea thats why I would do 2003. Or just get a NAS box [:P]

I use windows 8 desktops professional and love it.

glad you do.  every client of mine that has had the misfortune of purchasing it has upgraded to windows 7..[:)]

Lol well 7 is not bad. Just hope windows gets better as time goes.
