The ssi iso is for the sophos hardware. If you want to install on your own hardware download the iso for the software appliance, the filename begins with asg.

I'll download the asg... iso.  And, give that a try.
I see others have made posts about not knowing what iso to use also.  So, it isn't just me.  I know i shouldn't expect much for a free product, but having to ask for help just to find the correct iso to download hasn't impressed me. But, I also never expected to get that help so fast on a sunday night.

is there two nic's?  I guess that depends on your definiton of what a nic is. As in nic stands for network interface card.  Now, I only have one network interface in my system that is an add-on card.  But, there also is a network interface that is intergrated and not a add-on card.  I guess i'll find out if that makes a difference or not when i use the correct iso.

There are 4 different folders in ftp://ftp.astaro.com/UTM/v9/ (hardware_appliance, software_appliance, up2date and virtual_appliance).

Hardware = a box from Astaro/Sophos
Software = any PC/Server
Up2Date = update packages
Virtual = some predefined vms for vmware

Therefore I really can not understand your post when selecting the wrong iso-file.

On most tech forums, NIC is used generically to refer to the Ethernet port itself, regardless of whether it's embedded on the motherboard or plugged in as an expansion card.

To the software iso, NIC 'type' isn't relevant. The software installer is designed for a much broader range of equipment so has more drivers whereas the hardware/SSI installer is built specifically for Astaro's own hardware (limited driver set).

Today I need to install an iso in an old appliance. No one of the hardware iso can be installed. Only software one... why??
