From the command line as root, rename the /etc/asg file.  That will allow you to load the software version.

PS Go to the Support Downloads page to get putty.exe and puttygen.exe, use puttygen to create an SSH key for yourself and then go to the 'Shell Access' tab in 'Management >> System Settings'.  Select 'Allow public key authentication', 'Allow root login: root access but only with ssh key' and add your public key to 'Authorized keys for root'.  When you first copy the key into the plus box and Apply, you will see three lines like 'ssh-rsa', 'AAAAB3NzaC1...' and 'test@iPhone'.  After you press the big Apply to accept the configuration, you will see a single line like '[RSA] (AAAAB3NzaC1) test@iPhone'.  Follow Using the Putty utility with Astaro.

Thanks Bob.  If I plan on maxing out ram and swapping an SSD, will up2date still work or should I install scratch from software appliance iso using dvd?

Up2Date will work fine with the software version, and you must install the software version in order for the home license to work.  The only thing you lose with the software appliance is the one-touch upgrade such as V8-to-V9 - you will have to install V9 from ISO.

Deleting all partitions from hdd and reinstalling from software .iso.will do the trick.

No you have to use the Software ISO.

I don't have a usb DVD/CDROM available.  I renamed the /etc/asg to /etc/oldasg and the installed via the SSI: asg-9.000-8.1-ASI-V2.zip onto the ASG120.  When I try ti install my home license it gives me the can't install license on 1*** device error.

I can try to to a unetbootin install onto the HDD but what is the best way to format the disk clean via the currently installed UTM install or during the USB/unetbootn ISO install?

I have to manually mount and cp the install folder and also rename the perl_Package from .r to .rpm

One weird thing in that on the ASG 120 rev.4, it looks the interfaces are in reverse order.  Anyway to force to correct what is labeled on the box or do I need to break out my Brother P-Touch?

On this box, it has 1GB RAM and what looks like add-on card interface internally.  What is the max RAM this device will support on the single chip and if I replace the 160GB Hitachi HDD with a 64 or 128 GB SSD will I run into any issues?

Changing the HD is OK with the Software version of Astaro, but will not work for the Hardware Appliance installer/license.

SSDs seem to be working fine for most users. Keep in mind that Astaro does a lot of logging, which can lead to high wear on the SSD.

Some of the appliances can take 2GB RAM, but I'm not sure which version is which.

My understanding is that the Rev.4 device differs from the Rev.5 only in paintjob and RAM installed.
