GA vs. softrelease

I've notices that UTM 9.000 is now released as a soft release. What are the main differences between a soft release and the final GA release? Is the soft release considered beta quality or is it suitable for production environments?

One intrepid member here has a major installation running on V9 in a VM after restoring his 8.305 config backup to it. I've started an experiment by building our configuration from scratch in V9 running in an Amazon instance. I imagine it will be 9.01 or 9.02 before I start moving any of my customers though.
