Up2Date not working - ASG220 7.507

Hi all.  I have an older 220 running 7.507 with the old-style license.  Registration date is 3/06 and the expiration date is "Never". It has no maintenance or subscriptions, so it won't automatically download Up2Date packages, but I am having a problem manually downloading any of the 7.5xx Up2Date packages.
What happens is that when I try, it downloads up to 99% of the package, then it slows to nearly nothing.
Then in the Upload file dialog box, above the progress bar, the graphic is replaced by a miniature login box for WebAdmin, which I can log into if I want, but it's only about 2 lines high.  This behavior is present in IE, Firefox, and Safari.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Am I just not waiting long enough?
Regards,
Brian

  • I think that your next step is to contact your partner about renewing your licenses to get current.

Not to quibble, but don't I already have a non-expiring license?
  • Astaro changed the licensing model a year or 2 ago -- anyone who wanted to move to Version 8 (and beyond) had to convert their licenses to the new "on demand" model.  All features, with the exception of what is included in the "Essential" license (which is free) are now licenseable features, including the IPS and advanced VPN that used to just be part and parcel with the old appliances.

You have to have at least one of the 5 available subscriptions installed to get automatic firmware and pattern updates.

Contact your reseller for details, they can help you make sense of it all.

That makes sense, but would having an old-style license preclude me from upgrading to the highest 7.x package?  Put another way, is there any license-related reason why I can't manually install the 7.508 Up2Date package?
  • No license issues, no, but if you are using an old 220 with only 512MB of RAM, you will have trouble manually updating.  If you had maintenance, I'd start a support case directly with Astaro, not here... V7 is still officially supported.
