ASG 120 Rev 4 RAM upgrade options

You probably already know this, but self-replacement of parts and upgrading hardware within appliances will negate your support agreement and warranty.

I am more than happy to go via the official channels but I don't have any information regarding the process. 

1)How much does the upgrade kit cost?
2)Who do I need to contact to get it?
3)If I make the upgrade myself (using the official RAM supported) ,will my warranty get negated? (I don't have support from astaro as I am a home user anyway)

There isn't any official upgrade kit.  It's an upsell situation.  If you want more memory, you need to buy a higher grade appliance (In this case it would be a 320 with 2GB memory).

Upgrading it yourself would kill the warranty as well, as this is tied in with support.  They could say that you broke it while doing an unsupported upgrade with inferior components.

Given the source of the appliance and that you'll be using a home license anyway, just go ahead and do it yourself and don't worry about it.  I'm curious to know if a rev.4 120 can go to 4GB or if it is limited to 2GB by the chipset.

The 120 Rev 4 goes up to 2 Gig and since I am a home user I might go ahead and upgrade. Any ideas regarding the RAM module? I am trying to get the Apacer Notebook Memory DDR2-667 2GB SOD PC2-5300 CL5 but I can't find it online [[:)]]

Any ddr2 667 or 800 should work fine, I'd stick with the name brand stuff though.  A little more expensive, but I've always had good experiences with Crucial value memory for non-performance uses.

I just bought a Crucial 2GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module [[:)]] waiting for the 8.202 iso and then I will install it [[:)]]

The thing to watch with the memory is the voltage. I have some  reasonably rated standard ddr2 that won't work in my motherboards because it is 2.2v. I was told I should have adjusted the voltage in the bios, so these days when I can I nominate 1.5v and suffer 1.8v.

How did you buy the Astaro 110 /120 for Home User License?

I would like to buy too but it simply is a pain.

The reasons I am keen to buy (even when the specs is lower than my Fit2PCi) is because

1) 03 x NIC = I can see how Bridge Mode works.
This is starting to be important for me as my local ISP now comes with those "All in One" Modems + Routers + VoIP and there is no option to convert them to Bridge Mode thus if want to Integrate Astaro, Astaro must be a Bridge Mode OR it is Double NAT (One at the ISP all in one device, One at the Astaro )

2) Learn how this USB Firmware loading works.

3) Have hands one experience knowing how good these appliance are before we use it at work or be a reseller etc, we need to have confidence in it first.

- But as of now, life is hard to buy it.

There's a number of small form factor motherboards that when using a daughtercard support 5 gigabit NICs at a reasonable price.
