Use the SLES template.  64-bit is more efficient with larger amounts of memory.
Ram:  More is better.  1GB is the minimum recommended.  Go with 2 GB.
CPU:  More is better.  Go with 2 GB.
HD:  The more space that you give it, the more logs it can keep over time, so go with 40GB.
NIC:  Go with the E1000 is the usual recommendation.

What is SLES template? Do you mean Suse Linux Enterprise? 8/9 or 10 or 11?
Sorry I mean vCPU one or two vCPU?
How long in month will use 20 GB logs?

$ 70 bucks is about 49 Euro. Super, we have to pay in good old germany round about 70 Euro for 2 TB drive. [:(]

Now we have only 5 Siam cats and no dogs at the moment but two years ago we have two doberan dogs and two Siams at the same time. This two cats are the big bosses in our house and not the dogs.

The cats are 10 years old and weren't raised with dogs.  The dogs (German Shepherds, two of which are in my profile pic) entered the picture over time.  The oldest is 6, then 5, and the newest is 19 months (a rescue who was abused, starved, dehydrated, and probably a week away from death when I took him in.  He was high prey drive, destructive, people, animal, food, and object  aggressive.  He's infinitely better now and extremely social.  Thanks god as he ate much of the inside door trim, a couch, and my kitchen floor in the first month I had him).  Each time a new dog enters the picture, the dog needs to learn not to come at the cats like a freight train and the cats need to learn to trust the newcomer.  After having the newest dog for 8 months, he and one of the cats just began interacting last month.

I have seen your avatar. Right a deutscher Schäferhund with standing ears and left with hanging ears. But I cant indentify what in the middle is. Poor eyes. [8-)]

But I am a little bit confused because when I have a look at the astaro website and the requirements are different between the virtual appliance and the software appliance.

I want to install ASG (latest_asg_v8_software.iso) on my ESXi server and not the virtual image.

What kind of linux? Maybe I would prefer 64-bit.

What do you recommend?

having run esxi more than a couple of times here's my advice:
Other 2.6x Kernel Linux 64-bit...use the 64 bit..if you have to upgrade beyond 3 gig you won't have to reinstall later.
Ram: minimum is 2 gigs..best to start with that amount.
cpu two with at least 2.0 ghz allocated.  
hard drive 40 gigs minimum.
nic e1000 all the way..can't beat the intels.

If you have further questions let me know...however...you should be able to use the vmware image for astaro then modify it's allocations before you light it off..[:)]
