ASG220 7.510->8.x Update = dead ?

Just received a couple of ASG220's that we should setup and ship to other offices. Just for  the sake of it; I updated 1 ASG220 to 7.510, then started the upgrade to 8 process. Initially, there was a test for space, etc = ok, then the download = ok, then the "start update" = OK. Now,, approx 2,5 hourse later, I still haven't got any message back that it's up'n'running and I can't access it either.

Note; this is a completly new/empty ASG220 with just the default/initial config set. Nothing else done, simply an inside/outside,etc, setup and...?? two hours ? can't be correct.

    Since you are a partner, start a case with Astaro Support, I'm sure they'd be interested in this issue.

    During the upgrade process there should be some information on the LCD display.

    Hi emerson8,

    Since the ASG220 is a new/empty ASG220, you could download the v8 hardware appliance CD for ASG on ftp.astaro.com, burn on a CD, and get the ASG220 to boot it with an external USB CD-ROM. It will save you a lot of time of getting the ASG to download all the up2dates for each ASG220 you have.

    Tvliew, I'm sure he's aware that he can directly install V8 on the appliance; however, he's probably concerned, as a reseller (as I am also), that remote upgrades for customers may fail in a similar manner...

    OP, has Astaro looked at this for you yet (if you started a case)?

    FWIW, I have done a few test upgrades and they have worked fine so far... but it concerns me to hear of one failing in this manner.

    Hi Bruce,
    Same for me, I am wondering if there are failed upgrades like this and how to prevent / fix them before I upgrade all the customers...

    Feedback and "I'm sorry  !" 

    1st, The error is 100% on our side, not Astaro, though the info behind it can be intresting.

    So, what happend was, the brand new ASG220 had an extra 2GB module inserted. That was no problem with the initial 7.508 fw.
    Not an issue with 7.509 or 7.510 either.

    So, bug simply due to running a very unsupported config, and therefor Im sorry for the post as it sounds worse than it was.
    Simply running 7.5xx with 3gb's = 100% ok, running 8.1x with 1 GB's = 100% ok.

    Off course, it's intresting as to why 3 GB's is ok with 7.5xx but not with 8.1xx,  but since it's an unsupported config, it's not an issue but simply  an intresting fact. 

    Again, sorry for not checking the facts behind the test/setup before posting.
    For what it's worth, it might be of benefit if someone else is about to test with extra memory inserted into their ASG.

    During ISO installation (v7 -> v8 Upgrade is also based on that!) there is a check that checks for supported hardware. Inserting unofficial memory is of course not supported and may cause an error at that check. That would explain why the memory worked for you in the first place and as long as you kept running v7 (you inserted it *after* ISO installation).

    Hello trollvottel, 
    I heard that in some rare cases (when the swap usage is very high) Astaro give the permission to use more than 1gb for a 220. In this case 2gb becomes certified by Astaro... so? in this case is not possible to upgrade to v8?
