WebAdmin not loading

I am new to the Astaro system, I didn't have a spare computer so i just purchased an ASG110/120 from ebay because I like the form factor and didn't want to deal with a new build. I am having issues getting logged in for the first time, i have done a bunch of searching in the forum and the astaro website and most of what i find says "talk to your vendor".

I installed v8 of the software to start fresh and had no problems, i got a prompt to wait for reboot and go to 192.168.0.1:4444 to login and finish setup, i am not being assigned an IP address when connected to any ethernet ports.

I have set my static ip settings as follows
IP:192.168.0.10
Subnet:255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.1

i am able to ping 192.168.0.1 with no problems but when I try to login to the webadmin portal I get a blank white page in firefox, chrome gives "Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error.", and safari gives " the server unexpectedly dropped the connection"

I have tried all 3 browsers when the connection to the ASG is the only network connection. does any one have any ideas as to what the cause could be?

Several things:

An Astaro installation does not install with DHCP enabled on the chosen Administrative port... thus you have to setup the static IP as you have done.. you aren't supposed to be able to pull an IP address from it.

Are you using the url https://192.168.0.1:4444 ? If you don't tell your browser to use SSL, it won't connect.

Also... since you bought an appliance off of Ebay... is it one of the older units that only came with 512MB of RAM? If so, you will likely have performance issues with Version 8, as 1GB is the recommended minimum for this newer version of the ASG Firmware.

I have tried https as well as http, when trying https i get a connection interrupted error in Firefox and "Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error." in chrome.

The manufacture date on the box is November 2007 so I am assuming that it is one of the older versions, would installing v7 help out here or just with general performance? Would you recommend installing v7 for performance sake?

Hi, bshashinka, and welcome to the User BB!

What version of Firefox?

I think the problems with V8 will be less than V7.5 unless you use too many features or put too much load on the device.

In any case, you should search here for how to install the software version on an appliance. The hardware version of the Astaro won't accept the free home-use license. Right now, you're probably running on the 30-day trial license that comes with the 120.

Thanks for the warm welcome Bob,

My main use is going to be for firewall and VPN access into the network for a few remote devices.

The big issue right now is that I can't even seem to login, as stated in the problems above.

I am using Firefox V3.6.13 for mac and chrome version 9.0.597.102
