Licensing question

I've been running the Home version of the ASG, and am in the process of purchasing a commercial license.  My active IPs list shows 26, and I have counted all of the devices in the house, comparing their addresses with the list and can only come up with 19.  We've also not had any guests here in the past 7 days, so there shouldn't be any stray DHCP addresses like that.  In fact, one of these addresses was a fixed address on my daughter's TiVO and she moved out of our house last May!  So I'm not sure why these other addresses are hanging on.  I want to purchase a 25 user license (quite a bit less expensive than 50!) and if these haven't cleared up by the time I get the 25 user license on there, won't I get bombarded with "over limit" messages?  I don't see any way to clear these out (although I thought I had read somewhere of a way, but now I can't find it).  Is there a way to remove the 7 addresses that are not in use?

    I believe that IP's are cleared automatically 7 days after they are no longer used.  As far as your difference between actual devices and IP count, most are probably due to DHCP lease expiration and devices getting new IP's.  As far as the Tivo that's been gone for a year, by chance did you create a static mapping for this device?  If so, delete the static mapping, wait a week, and see if it gets purged from the licensing IP listing.

    But your homeuse License should enable you tu use 50 ip adresses?

    Maybe log in to MyAstaro and check your license.
    If it doesn't show 50 ip, drop me a message.

    Gert, I think you missed the point.. it sounds like the OP is looking to buy a commercial license to replace his home use license (not sure why, if it's really for home use -- maybe he just wants support)... there is a significant difference in cost between a 25 user license and a 50 user license, and he is counting only 19 devices.

    What I find interesting, is that, for example, on a laptop computer where you have both a wireless and a wired connection possibility, it's easy to get two addresses in there because by default you get a different IP address on each interface you might use (I use the Macbook wired in my office, but wireless throughout the rest of the house).  It's just one device though, and so it's frustrating that I have to go through hoops to keep it from being counted twice.  In fact, for the other two wired Macs, I turned off the AirPort so it wouldn't accidentally try to connect wirelessly and consume a license.  I load up a VM to check something for 5 minutes, and because it's always been standard practice to have a default gateway on there, bang, I have another address registered that will stay there for 7 days. 

    While I can appreciate that Astaro takes an easy to monitor approach for licensing, it is often a bit "overboard".  In anticipation of moving to a business license (since I'll be running my business from my house), I'm having to come up with creative ways to avoid exceeding the license.  For example, narrowing the range of the DHCP server, going around and removing the default gateway from devices that don't need it (since it is standard practice for me to ALWAYS put in a default gateway), changing the network settings on a myriad of VMs that I use for testing so they won't try to talk to Astaro, etc.  

    It would be nice to be able to combine a home/commercial license  - because honestly I only need 5 IPs for computers for my business, and I have 14 others that are just things for "home".  But I want to be honest and legal about it, so I'll end up paying a lot more for Astaro for a business license just to keep it around.  That said, because of this I'm looking at other less expensive options as well.  $1300 a year for a 25 user bundled license with 3 people in the house is starting to seem like more than I want to pay!

    Hi, one way to 'combine' would be to run 2 firewalls. Obviously that would make things more complicated.
