Lost Admin Password on config restore for new ISO install

Hi, I just installed the latest v8 iso which seemed to go well.
The install is on a VMWare ESX 3i hypervisor.
After restoring the configuration from my production box which is v7.507, the backend connection to the browser reset (expected) but then my admin password is no longer recognized (unexpected).

Can anyone think of why this might be?

    Hi, passwords are not included in backup files; you should be prompted for a new password.

    If not, you could log in on the console (blank password) and search these forums for the webadmin password reset procedure.

    I wasn't suggesting that the password was reset or restored by the config restore.
    The newly created password was corrupted by the restore process (or some variant thereof).
    The new state cannot be accessed by any previous username/password combination.

    PS Barry meant that loginuser and root passwords are reset, but all local users' passwords are backed up.

    Yes I did try Barry's suggestion yet it did not solve all of my troubles.

    I dug deeper and found a significant problem with the interface definitions after the restoration of the config.

    Eth0 was originally the nic for the internet connection but this was somehow switched with Eth1 so the hardware that was connected to the cable modem was given a non-routable static ip. The eth1 was connected to the internal network and was set for DHCP and was assigned the same ip address as the static for eth0.

    Needless to say this did not work.  The work required to change all of the various references didn't make sense to me.  I no longer can trust this configuration so I started with a new VM and used the ISO to proceed.  

    I ran into something like this a couple of years ago when I was using hardware-based installations.  I wish I knew what causes this sort of scrambling of interfaces.

    this is a known issue with v8; see http://www.astaro.com/lists/Known_Issues-ASG-V8.txt (NIC order may change when importing v7 backup).
