Thank you Astaro my V8 prize arrived today

Thank you for the Astaro wireless point. I wondered how I was going to get one of them to test. Major upgrade to the current wlan infrastructure around here.

Now to sit and wait for v8 with wlan support to be released. I can't go back to v7 because my config is not compatible. I suppose I could always fire up the test box and play the configuration for a while.

One recommendation would be that the include catx cable be a bit longer eg 2m or not be provided. The provided cable is only long enough to sit the wlan box on top of the ASG.

    Its an AP30. I am with Ian on this. Don't want to go back to 7.56 and import old backup and all the hassle when my v8 is just purrrring along. Hopefully a new up2date is around the corner for v8 with wireless support[:)]

    I got a AP10 today as my price [[;)]]

    Unfortunately there is no manual - I have no idea how to use it *g*

    What is the difference to a normal AP and to the AP30? I can't find the Astaro APs on their website...

    Edit: I found a datasheet, so I won't be able to use it until the Up2date... [:)]

    Nice price anyway - I already had in mind to buy a 802.11n AP because I have a new laptop supporting the N standard - so this comes at the right time [[;)]]

    I'll say... the AP10/AP30 is a great prize to award for participation in the beta... I was expecting something like a T-Shirt!

    I am expecting a prize but not sure what.Indeed (BrucekConvergent),an AP is a great prize and I am happy that I will be able to help on the closed Beta for that [:)]

    I have couple of questions:
    1)Is the only difference between the AP 10 and 30, the user capacity and the maximum throughput?
    2)Isn;t there a 5GhZ availability for the "n" protocol?

    Hi Wingman,
    there is another difference the AP10 is only 150mb while the AP30 is 300mb.
    and another, the AP30 has POE where as the AP10 does not.

    I don't really understand why both AP versions only have a 100 Mbps Ethernet connection. They will be limited to this 100 Mbps no matter whether they transfer 150 or 300 Mbps over the air...

    Hi Monarch, those values are theoretical maxima under optimal (lab) conditions you'll never reach in normal use anyway. Or did you ever really get the max. 54MBit from 802.11g?

    With Wi-Fi, you can just take the half of the theoretical bandwidth and then substract ~10% from that to get a rough estimate of your maximum under optimal conditions. It gets even worse, bandwidth drops rapidly by distance.

    I can tell you another difference between AP10 and AP30: The AP10 has only one (but detachable) antenna, while the AP30 has two of them (for diversity).

    But you can still detach the internal antennas of the AP30, they're connected to the board with pigtails so you can still attach external antennas to the AP30 if you really need to. For this, you have to open the case, though.
