Thank you Astaro my V8 prize arrived today

Thank you for the Astaro wireless point. I wondered how I was going to get one of them to test. Major upgrade to the current wlan infrastructure around here.

Now to sit and wait for v8 with wlan support to be released. I can't go back to v7 because my config is not compatible. I suppose I could always fire up the test box and play the configuration for a while.

One recommendation would be that the include catx cable be a bit longer eg 2m or not be provided. The provided cable is only long enough to sit the wlan box on top of the ASG.

    Yeah, I know these values are theory (unfortunately [;)])...

    What I hate is that all vendors advertise them. So to keep up appearances you should at least put in a gigabit wired interface into your APs [:D]

    Congrats!  Nice price indeed. 

    What are the prices on those AP's?  I can't seem to find that info.

    As i use Alcatel Omniaccess in the past
    is there still chance to test AP10 / AP30 [H]

    to evaluate if i can do same as omniaccess

    You're right, it has three of them. Without three, it wouldn't be able to do 300MBit at all. According to Wikipedia, 802.11n offers 'real' max bandwidth between 100 and 120MBit/s, a gigabit port wouldn't do much there. But IMHO you're right, it would be 'nice' if it had one.

    Do you already know when V8 will get wireless support? Unfortunately, the 8.001 update does not include it (at least according to the changelog posted here)...

    Woohoo. I got my prize today. UPS called me this morning and woke me up (which was a good thing because I was about to oversleep) and asked for directions, and I understood it was something from Astaro since they said the package came from Germany, but at the same time they said it was a small package.

    I think I ranked at the bottom of the list of those who won a prize, so I (also) thought it'd be getting a t-shirt and some other small things cool things, maybe a bigger home license or something, so this prize was a big surprise :: Astaro AP10 [[:)]] 

    Thank you Astaro. It will come to great use, replacing my now-in-bridge-mode-and-unable-to-configure DLink DIR-655 for wireless access. And I will of course join in on the betatesting.. just bring me a up2date package for wireless security [[:)]]

    Congratulations to all y'all.  This looks like a great product, though I'm a little bemused by the lack of a 5GHz radio.  Any word if/when there will be a dual-band AP offered?

    Nooooooooo, I was hoping that wasn't the case. My AP is still sitting in the box just because I don't want to go back to v7. V8 seems so much more responsive to me on the same hardware.

    I'm also staying on v8 and waiting.. hopefully the sun will decide to come back to Oslo so I can stay outside instead of inside looking at the AP10 without being able to use it (yet)...
    The letter that came with the prize said August and fully awailable in October.. so I think we would have two good month testing this before everybody else can get one [:)]

    Wireless is currently scheduled for 8.100.

    The idea is to make it stable on the V7 platform (where the majority of our customers are for the next month), then port it to V8 and have another beta phase.

    I run V8 and I understand that many people are waiting to use wireless with the best ASG ever :-)
