Hardware performance

Hi

I am currently looking at buying a second hand desktop to run asg on my home network.

I have seen a dimension 2350 with a P4 2.4Ghz processor, 1GB ram and a 40GB HDD.

Has anyone installed ASG on this hardware before and did it work??

What kind of through put could I expect from this if using all of security features available in the home license?? eg IPS, web filtering, dual virus scan and mail scanning.

    I beta tested on a machine slower then that and had almost everything on.  It worked fine for one user, but I was not able to get my full download speed of over 30 Mbit/sec.  The web admin interface was a tad slow too, but not bad. 

    I use a low power dual core AMD proc with 2 gigs of RAM with almost everything on and it just screams. [:)]

    P4 2,4 GHz and 1 Gig of Memory is abslutely fine und performant for home use. I personally prefer AMD or newer P4 or it's successors with powersaving features. A normal "old" P4 uses usually continous >70W because of lacking powersaving features and with Chipset and HDD you have some 100W energy consumer as home asg ==> $$ [:)]

    If your ASG is a 7x24 system (what I assume), i'd recommend you to spend some more $$ for a more energy efficient system than a P4.
