Astaro Security Gateway Installtion Failed on Dell PowerEdge R610

I have a problem with installing Astaro Security Gateway 7.504 on Dell PowerEdge R610.  I also tried with installing ASG 7.302 and 6.402 shiwch was installed successfully on Dell PowerEdge 2950 server.

Listed below is the server configuration:


- Dell PowerEdge R610
- 12 GB Memory
- Embedded Broadcom, GB Ethernet NICS with TOE
- E5530 Xeon Processor, 2.4 GHz 8M Cache, 5.86 GT/s QPI, TurboHT
- 500GB 7.2K RPM Self-Encrypting Neag-Line SAS 6Gbps 2.5in Hotplug Hard Drive
- PERC H700 Integrated RAID Controller, 512MB cache

It shows me the following error while trying to install, step 3 (detecting hardware):

Installation Failed

Please remove CD-ROM and restart the system

Is there any problem with the hardware configuration for ASG?

    I'm not sure if 7.5 can handle your SAS drive or the newer PERC.  Have you checked the Hardware Compatibility List for the same or similar hardware?  Have you tried hitting Alt-F4 to view the installation log for clues?

    If the R610 has a regular IDE or SATA channel available, you might try hooking up a drive to it.  Otherwise you might try the v8 beta, which includes drivers for many more modern devices.

    I checked on the tested servers, Dell PowerEdge R610 with SAS Hard drive was there.

    Dell PowerEdge r610    2x2,13 GHz Intel XEON E5506, 2x SAS-HDD 73 GB, 4 GB RAM| Dell SAS1078 (Dell PERC 6/i) Raid 0 and 1,  | 4x Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5709 (rev 20) 

    I also found PERC H700 Integrated under HCL.

    I will also  check the installation log.

    Bummer, we were going to upgrade to the Dell R610 as well. Hope you can get this figured out.

    here the same problem with Dell R310 with PERC H700 adapter.
    But the Astaro HCL reports:

    So a big question to the Astaro team: why is the H700 in the HCL and I can't install 7.504?!?

    I just looked at the most recent version of the HCL for V7, located at http://www.astaro.com/lists/HCL-ASG-V7.txt, dated 11 May 10. There's no reference to a Dell R310 or the PERC H700. The R610 is on there, but only with the PERC 6/i. Are you certain that your not accidentally looking at an HCL for the V8beta? The one with ajax enabled search on the new knowledgebase mostly applies to V8, not V7.
     
    Anyone is free to try the V8beta, which supports a lot more hardware, but it does have bugs and should not be used in a production environment.

    Hi Scott,

    look at the attachment...

    I can confirm that H700 is recognized by v8 but in the HCL there is no way to know!

    However, I prefer the HCL old style. The new one is not so clear and reliable.
    Astaro can't publish an HCL and then says  it should not be implied that a device is supported by Astaro just because it appears on this list. 
    In this way the HCL published is completely unreliable! It's absurd!
    It's the same to say: Hey boys, you have to try your hardware and so you can discover if it is supported or not.

    IMHO this is not the attitude we are expecting from a company that has enterprise purpose.
    The power of Astaro, from the beginning, is the possibility to use several hardware and so the HCL must be compiled with more carefully.
    Otherwise sell only appliances....
