I tried both the Intel BOXD945GCLF2 and the Asus AT3N7A-I.

Intel failed on package checksums and the Asus failed with "mp-bios bug 8254timer" error.

In addition to using all the Astaro install switches I also tried various BIOS settings, all failed.

Package checksum failures usually mean that the CD drive isn't reading the disk well... try burning at a slower speed or using a different drive.

Tried using a different drive, burning at a slower speed, picked up another motherboard MSI G31TM-P21 with e5200. Still the install fails.

Re downloaded the iso, and tried with installing on an AMD Athlon with a Asus M2A-VM 690G Chipset, again the install fails.

Hmm... have you tried different RAM and power supplies?

Finally got the install to work in the MSI G31TM-P21 by changing the SATA hard drive for a PATA.

My install source was a stand alone USB CD ROM.

Not sure why package checksums would fail for that?

Maybe the SATA hard drive is going bad?

The new "SUPERMICRO SYS-5015A-H 1U"  has arrived and placed in service. Currently it is running Astart 7.502. I am very surprised how fast it is, much faster in all aspects than the dual p3. The only thing I did notice is the power supply fan seems to be somewhat noisy. To the actual touch the case seems to run very cool, away from the area where RAM and power supply are located it is physically cold. Externally there are no area where it is really warm. When I reviewd the BIOS settings for hardware health the CPU was running between 93 & 95 degrees F. This is while I was still building the box. I am not sure what the temps are today. Overall I am very pleased with the new server. Average memory usage over the last 18 hours is 15.74%, avg CPU 1.24%. I will provide more information as going forward. Ray you did a great job in finding this device!!

I am also very pleased with my box. The fan noise is there but it is not bad at all. Mine also runs cool. Just a little warm to the touch.

Just for fun, I thought it would be interesting to see how this box behaved as a media server. So, I installed Windows 7 and set up Media Center. This box will record two HD feeds while streaming to two extenders with out any issues. All while pulling 28 watts of power. Impressive.

I am so happy with this box as a Media Center Server that I ordered a second box for Astaro. It will be here this week and I will simply restore my back up and will be right back up.

Very impressive little box and every once in a while, NewEgg puts them on sale...

This is an impressive box no question. I though about getting a second one and using it for a workstation. The load of two HD feeds recording while streaming is surprising. My next quest is to find shelving to house the micro server, two switches, with the P3 (old Astaro box) laying side ways on the floor. The P3 will become my linux box.
