backup.plx -i should do a restore, according to

as long as the backup is not encrypted.

Another option is to copy the backup to a thumbdrive, and then do a factory reset or re-install.

Thanks I did something of the sort.  I had a 3 month old backup of the VM.  So I removed the previous, uploaded the previous, and configured it from there.

Usage: backup [ [-i ] | [-d ] | [-l] | [-o ] | [-p ]]
  -i      Imports the given backupfile.
  -d      Asks for passphrase, decrypts the given backupfile and writes it to the current directory.
           -l      List available backups
           -o      Write a unencrypted backup to outfile
           -p      Print the given backupfile in a 'human readable' format
                   Without any arguments, backup sends an Auto-Backup to the configured recipients.

For an encrypted backup that would be "backup.plx -d "

i have AWG3000 and i need to reset it to factory default, i tried the bottom but its useless,,,

Can you log in to the device?  If so, you can do a factory reset from the 'Management >> System Settings' 'Reset Configuration or Passwords' tab.

No there is no way to login, i've tried, please if you have any idea how i can reset the unit from the bottom of the unit...do i have to keep pressing the bottom for some time or just simply press the bottom.[:@]

please if you can help me i'll be glad.

There is no way to trigger a factory reset from controls on the outside of an AWG/AMG appliance. You have three options. 

1) If its just a config problem, and you have a good, current backup (.abf file extension) you can save it to the root of a USB memory stick, then reboot the appliance. on bootup, it will find the backup and restore it.  when it finished booting, and you hear the box beep 5 times, you should be able to access it again.

2) If step 1 was unsuccessful, and if you can logn to the console directly (kb and monitor connected to the box) as root, then you can run the factory reset command manually 
/etc/init.d/factoryreset reset

3) If you cannot login to the console, then your only alternative is to re-install the appliance. This is pretty simple, but you need to have a USB CDROM drive. First, download the latest ISO for your from here:
ftp://ftp.astaro.com/pub/AWG/v7/hardware_appliance/iso/
then, burn that ISO to disk using an ISO recording application like IMGBurn (The Official ImgBurn Website). Finally, insert the CD into the CD drive, connect it to the AWG, and reboot the appliance. It will automatically install in 15-20 minutes. If you connect a monitor to the VGA port, you can watch the progress, and see when it completes.
