Up2Date ASG 7.400 delayed

Astaro has temporarily delayed the release of 7.400, below is the text of the message at Up2Date Announcements: Up2Date ASG 7.400 delayed

Dear Customers and Partners,

After further analyzing the delays some customers experienced after installing the 7.400 up2dates, which were related to the database upgrade process, we decided to withdraw the up2date from the servers for now and investigate the issue.

I am a customer, what should I do now?


All users that have already installed the up2date and the system rebooted fine, you have no problem. Just continue using it.

All users that have not yet installed the up2date, please wait for now.
The ASG will automatically delete the current up2date package and will download the new one once it is ready.

All users that have installed the up2date and are experiencing problems, please be either patient or contact the Astaro support team, which will help you to overcome the situation.

    Just curious, would there be any problem for fresh installs from the 7.4 ISO, with a restore of a 7.30x backup?

    I did a clean install of 7.4 from ISO with a backup from 7.306 and still had the problem I described in:

    Can we also now consider ourselves (involuntary) beta testers of v7.4?

    Will we also receive a 25 user license?

    But seriously Jack (and other Astaro volks), what would you like those of us who have already installed v7.4 to do?

    Do we go back to v7.306 or do we stay at v7.4, finding any discrepancies and reporting them here?

    Except I do have a problem, and so does everyone else. Whether they know it or not is irrelevant.

    I has also been stated that by installing from the ISO  the problem disappears. It does not. The reboot problem is not as severe, but there is still a problem.

    So, in light of the the "new" information...and in light of the fact that the update have been pulled...the old answers do not carry as much weight.

    Would someone like to chime in?

    The issue you are facing Jim is not in any way related to the 7.400 delay, nor the DB conversion issues. It is simply a bug that was unnoticed, which we now track and fix in accordance with our normal bug-resolutions. Apologies for any issues this visual bug may cause you in the meantime (especially with large groups i can see the hassle it might cause), and we will fix it as fast as we can!

    Jim, it only takes a few minutes to install the iso and restore from your backup. If you can't live with the out of order definitions then restore back to an earlier version. 

    Actually this is the longest beta I have seen astaro do but the software is getting so big and complicated, things sometimes do go wrong. On production servers, I usually wait till the first revision so in this case it would have been 7.41 before i even think about upgrading. This way astaro can tweak out minor bugs introduced in major revisions.

    At the end, what do you want the astaro people to say. Its emabarrassing enough for them that they had to pull the firmware which means they don't want you installing it. If its working for you then great otherwise roll back!

    well... the "issue" cost me 3 hours of downtime... I just couldn't figure out the problem. it just hang when loading "postgres". And since the internet connection was down i couldn't download the iso either.

    The update installed fine but the box didn't come back up. After 1:30h of waiting I decided it couldn't take any longer. Our database really isn't that big.

    After trying for another hour to get it to boot up again I quit and reset it to factory defaults via the buttons on the front of the box. after that it came up ok, I had to import the license file and a config backup and it worked.

    Though I lost all quarantine and statistical data. Very sad. Not to speak of the lost time and email communication. Thank god it was friday evening.

    I have elsewhere suggested that Astaro do a formal beta with select clients with an Astaro engineer on-site.  The developers standing at the ready.

    I instructed all of my customers to hold off installing V7.400, but it wasn't a lucky guess - there were still too many issues showing up on the beta forum.  We got burned so badly with the 5.000 release that we've stayed out of trouble where we could.

    But, my intent isn't to beat up on anyone.  This is a very powerful, robust system, and the folks designing it have made incredible progress in creating an elegant design.  This glitch is a hangover from the open-source beginnings; it's an organizational issue, not one of talent, dedication or skill.

    Hopefully, Jan and his team will do a post-mortem on this situation and on the problems surrounding the V7.300 release.

    This morning I tried upgrading to 7.4 on one of my test Astaro boxes.

    At the moment I am unable to authenticate to the proxy and the admin HTTP interface using local authentication.

    SSH works fine...

    ***Hard rebooted the box and now its working fine. Thanks, and sorry for the 'much ado about nothing'

    Also:

    I need to upgrade to 7.4 since my http proxy is restarting 5x a day or more.

    [thetube][INFO-141] Http proxy not running - restarted

    Support says its due to heavy load....and to upgrade. Glad I saw this post first!!!

    First of all, my apologies as I have not been following the recent comments on 7.4 beta etc.

    I just launched the up2date via the webadmin interface for 7.4 and it returned a fatal error:

    This is exactly what you receive if you try to install the "placeholder" package for 7.400.

    Quote from Up2Date Announcements : 

    We have replaced any downloaded 7.400's (not yet installed) with a "placeholder" Up2Date which has new text/tooltip indicating it is not a valid package and cannot be installed. We will reissue 7.400 again shortly, with 2 issues resolved regarding the installation process, at which point the "placeholder" up2date will be replaced with the valid 7.400 again.

    The latest information on updates is always at the Up2Date site, Up2Date Announcements

    7.400 has not been re-released at this time.
