[v7.302] Suspect something wrong with it

Hi,
since installing v7.302 on my ASG,it has failed 2 twice, not bad for a 3 day installation. Both times the web proxy fails, existing connections seem to continue. Packet filter doesn't appear to be affected. All logging stops so there aren't any logs to review. 

After 3 restarts tonight I attached a console to watch the screen during a restart
1/ ssh failed to start
2/. postrgress failed to start
3/. postgress ssh failed to start
4/. all interfaces are not responding.

I have re-installed the system to v7.250 to get it back on-line while waiting for the updates to download. Why v7.250, because that was the latest ISO I have. My 7.302 backup doesn't work on v7.250. A new backup will be applied when v7.301 is installed.

    Sounds similar to my issue with 7.301 and 7.302
    ulogd fails, postgres fails and ssh daemon all fail to start.

    No email processed by SMTP daemon despite SMTP daemon running. (postgres??)

    Factory reset, they still fail to start.

    I reinstalled 7.300 ISO, up2date to 7.301 and restored backup from live 7.301 system, up2date to 7.302 and seems OK now, the failed services are starting.

    The first two times I tried this, I got the same errors despite a clean install each time.

    Hardware is an Intel P45 mainboard, (using SiL addon controller card to get HDD and CDROM working since the onboard Intel ICH10 controller is NOT supported in 7.302).

    I suspect gremlins.

    I will let it settle for a couple of days just to ensure it isn't gremlins and at the same time download a later ISO so rebuild won't take so long.

    Just found a major bug.

    Ver 7.302

    Powered off the machine instead of shutdown procedure.  Turned power back on.

    Once into Webmin, it's as if a factory reset has occurred, it starts the new system setup wizard !!

    I was like "WTF!"  So went to my backup system. (Which was live production 15 minutes beforehand)

    This had also been powered off instead of shutdown normally.

    Exactly same behavior.  Had to restore backups to get them going again.

    I've used Astaro for years without a problem with cold shutdowns using the power switch.

    Both systems use different mainboards and chipsets.

    Whoops,
    I did that every time because I couldn't get webadmin page to work. First time it restored okay, but from then on, that would explain the lack of response after reboot.

    affirming issue with postgress -
    had to restart per button,
    since 7.302 all came up despite postgress, saying "failed"
    started by hand "/etc/init.d/postgressql restart" - o.k.
    since then every "normal" restart per shutdown
    postgress shows "done", is up and running ...

    Sounds like you had / have some DB corruption... have you tried resetting to factory defaults, then restoring your last backup?

    Just had one of my engineers tell me that he had similar DB issues after a power outage on his home unit; he had to restore a backup to get it going again -- looks like Postgres is not handling misc. power outages, etc, as well as MySQL did... maybe there's some tweaks that can be made...

    yep, before above post, i restored my asg twice when having shotdownprob,
    even acc 1.9 showed the same symptom. (but didn't matter me at that moment)
    as i'm not completely wrong with, pgsql is "just" for data logging ???

    A factory reset didn't work for me, Postgresql was still showing as failing to start after the reset.

    I had to reinstall from CD.  Did not try a manual start as my command line skills are lacking.

    Hi Simon,
    your action was like mine for the same reasons.

    I upgraded to v7.302 at about 7.30am Melbourne time today. The first time it failed was shortly after 1.30am the following day.

    My ASG doesn't usually get shutdown unless we have along power failure or for software or hardware changes and of course the obligatory user who knows better. It lives on a UPS which will keep it alive for about 30 minutes during a power outage.

    Fingers crossed.

    actually the firewall should restart automatically. i can just add my experience here:

    I was on ASL 7.202 and startet update to ASL 7.300 - the firewall installed the update and restartet - everything fine.

    Than I initiated the update to 7.301 and the firewall didn't come back. Checking the console in the serverroom told me, that ASL stopped all services and reached runlevel 6 - but hung there. Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart didn't help. I had to take away the power.
    After that, the firewall came up allright, but same procedure with update to  7.302.

    I didn't loose my configuration but hereby can admit, that ASL doesn't always reboot after the installations. It might have something to do with ACPI or maybe the (non existant) USB filesystems on my system?

    here the "last words" after installing 7.301 and 7.302

    runlevel 3 has been reached
    Switching to runlevel 6
    .....done
    restarting the system

    Hi,
    we aren't talking about after the upgrade, we are talking about after the ASG has been running for a day or so.

    At this stage my ASG has ben working fine since I did the last upgrade to v7.302.

    No thanks Simon, I am not feeling that brave just yet. Maybe on the weekend when I have time to re-build it from scratch or at least the 7.300 ISO and a good backup.

    That's a good one, Simon!

    I did have a customer just "throw the switch" on their 220 (normally heavily loaded) Friday evening, since they had a planned power outage in their area (they neglected to inform my technical team about it in advance)... it, thankfully, came up just fine Monday morning when powered back on... I am still concerned with the experiences some of you other guys are having, though... I thought for sure we'd be making a site visit Monday.
